Andrew Jackson University holds USDE/CHEA-recognized accreditation through the Distance Education and Training Council, but lacks regional accreditation. I can't speak for whether or not DETC accreditation will meet your future needs, but the school is certainly legitimate.

Jonnie Liu has put together what I believe to be the world's most comprehensive list of accredited/recognized distance learning MBA programs. It can be found here:

    Good luck.

I certainly hope this person does not actually represent AJU. This is a cheap shot at free advertising, and adds nothing to the discussion. But I will:

What, exactly, makes AJU "well worth your money"?

Follow the links given you for Jonnies web age and research your options. AJU is certainly accredited (DETC) and may well meet your needs. However, it is not Regionally Accredited and that may make a difference as far as utility. As I understand it there are some other programs that are RA at similar cost.

You will have to weigh the options and factors involved (cost/convenience) and make a determination.

Good news is that apparently Capella will consider Nationally Accredited programs (DETC) for admission to its doctoral programs....bad news is that this is apparently not the norm.

Another thing to consider is that if you are not completely determined to do an MBA you may consider other options such as MS in Mgt. Southwestern Missouri State (name ??) an RA state school has one on line and at very affordable in state tuition.

    Good luck.

I looked at Andrew Jackson University several years ago. I liked one of their degree programs a lot, but I'm glad that I didn't go there because it would have limited my chances of getting a Ph.D. (Something I didn't really think I was ever going to do, at the time.) However, your situation might be different. AJU certainly is not a degree mill and is far better then going with an unaccredited school.

So tell us, which program at AJU are you looking at? What are your future goals? With a bit more information, I think the folks on this board can provide you with some better advice and ideas.

I seem to recall reading posts from many people representing many schools.

Worth the money? Accredited, albeit not regional, and almost free.

  8. Andrew Jackson University? Reputation?

I've been following this board long enough to have read several posts about Andrew Jackson University, and that its reputation used to be "bad" but now it has become "better" if not "good" as a result of its DETC accreditation.

I'm wondering if the "bad old" Andrew Jackson University was really the same institution, or a different one? I found this post about an "Andrew Jackson College" running as a mill in Louisiana in the 1980s, and am thinking that perhaps the history of the current Andrew Jackson University, from Birmingham, AL is not at all connected to this incident.

Does anyone have any historical information of substance about the current Andrew Jackson University and its supposed less-than-wonderful past and/or beginnings?
