Hi, just got my info packet and see the tuition is 6400 GBP. It is listed as one payment; does anyone know if this can be spread out in some way?
    thanks

John S, according to Leicester, international students pay for each year that they are in the program & in advance. You should not have to pay for the whole program up front.

See the attached from their 'Finance & Fees' section.

By the way, which program are you taking?

John, I am searching for an MBA program. I have looked at Heriot-Watt (and am leaning in this direction due to cost, entry requirements, purchase one course at a time, etc.), Leicester (more costly, but with a Hospitality MBA specialization) and University of South Australia (expensive at $11K USD, but with the Le Cordon Bleu connection-very cool and it is 44 weeks) so I getting increasingly confused over value, utility of the degree, timeframe, and difficulty. I would love to go with HW, but I keep hearing how hard the exams are. Do you think people are overstating this? I am waiting for Professor Kennedy to send some test materials so that I can get an idea as to difficulty.
Sorry for the length, but need all the help I can get. It seems the more questions I ask, and the more answers I get, the more confusing it becomes!

John, A guy that works with me did the HW program about 5 years ago, and it took him 4 years to finish (one at a time) This person said they found the materials good, straight foward, not easy because it is all book materials, and the exams relatively fair..He said it was OK, and would recommend it to anyone, that is mid career & already has industrial or business/professional experience. This is one persons view, mind you.

Apart from the actual program type that fits your needs, in the money side Australia Vs HW the only difference is $4K.

Like I always say, go with the program that fits your personal needs, in terms of content, objectives and lastly Time & Money.

You could wait till you hear back from Kennedy before making your decision, and I would also ask him how long the average student takes to complete the HW MBA.

One other very important question to also ask is (same goes for the Aussy program) what is the fall out rate is from international students (especially from the USA)

    Good Luck.

John, thanks for the help. I am going to wait a while for the test materials. If I don't see them soon, I will probably enroll at either Sheffield-Hallam (forgot to mention them, they have a hosp. MBA, takes 3 years, costs about $7.5K USD), or UniSA and just eat beans and rice for the remainder of the year!!

I am sorry, Sheffield's program is a Msc.

    Exams en route

I passed your address to my secretary on Friday afternoon and would assume either the June 2002 exams in Organisational Behaviour and Quantitative Methods, plus 'good student answers, went that day or will go on Monday if the mid-afternoon post was missed (she has a large workload and I did not make the post 'prioritiy one').

I noted your reference to the late Professor Harper Boyd, the writer of our Marketing text (now subject to major revision as it is 10 years old). The re-write was delayed by our searching for US top Business School academics of sufficient standing in the subject and these were located sometime ago and they are about to commence the rewrite. Harper was great friend of EBS and a strong supporter of our dl pedagogy (he helped create it).

EBS exams are tough but fair. There are no tricks, no obscure cases, etc. If students acquire the knowledge of the subject concepts in the published texts, practice their application of analysis and evaluation to business problems (many included in the texts) and work through sample and past exams (business Cases to test analytical abilities, MCQs to test knowledge of concepts, and Essays to test avaluative and synthesis skills) they should be prepared to sit and pass the exams.

The 'good student' answers I have sent give you an idea of what is expected for a mid-60s grade pass (NB: on the British grade scale not the US - remember the analogy to Centigrade and Fahrenhiet temperature scales). You need 50 to pass: anything less and you fail (one re-sit only); over 70 and you earn a Distinction - 7 per cent qualify for distinctions each Diet. We do not suffer from 'grade inflation'. No 'norming', no adjusted Bell curves.

Over 1,000 MBA students graduate each year from a wide range of jobs, countries and circumstances. Employers - and the graduates - know what they are hiring when they employ a EBS MBA.

Incidentally, one another site a student swithering between Leicester and Warwick was told last month that the Leicester fees were about to go up. Check that out. EBS fees go up I January to GBP600 a course.

    Professor,
Just emailed you re: above. Thanks again. The more I read, the more confident I am in my abilities to complete the course. I look forward to the information.
