I want to begin distance learning but this particular school only offers a career diploma in the program I want to study which is computer programming. The question I want to ask is if a career diploma is good to have in this field?

    Thxs in advance,

Valerie, if the DL career diploma provides you with the vocational training and skills that make you competent in the computer field..then go for it.

If the program that you are about to study is career development to enhance what you already have, then that's Okay too.

If you are unertaking the Diploma at a private school and not the through DL from a recognised community college, and it is your expectations to get future credit towards an AA or BA/BSc, then this may prove difficult, that is unless you also have previous academics coupled with minumum 10 years experience.

Is this what your looking for?

    Good Luuck, with your studies.

Speaking of career diplomas, I earned one for a writing course I took about 20 years ago. It was through the Christian Writers Guild, created by Norman Rohrer. Today, the three-year course is headed by Jerry Jenkins, best-selling author of the Left Behind series.

Looking back, I can honestly say that the diploma I earned had a profound impact on my life and career. The training I received for it opened all kinds of doors, enabling me to successfully compete with graduates of ivy league universities.

The training also enabled me to write faster and sometimes better, than many of my fellow students in class.

Perhaps I should mention that while I am a graduate of the CWG program, my comments here are not intended as a commercial plug. Rather, it's my way of saying I believe in career diplomas.

BTW, my undergrad school gave me 4 credits in Christian Journalism for the entire three year course. When my articles and bylines began appearing in various magazines, a number of instructors at the school came to me for advice on getting published.

Kinda ironic, huh? RA degree holders seeking advice from a little guy with a diploma :)

I say this in jest, not arrogance.
