I have no information, but I think it may have been a one-person operation, and in some such cases, when the one person moves on (for whatever reason), the school fades away. Alexander Niven, founder of the International Institute for Advanced Studies got his doctorate there in the 1960s, I think (his dissertation, on an aspect of the US Civil War, was subsequently published by a respectable publisher), so it has been around for quite a while. Never wonderful but never, I think, phony.
