Hi, I'm planning to take my master's in information systems this january. and have narrowed down my list to 2 schools - Nova southeastern and touro. I considered applying at U Oregon's AIM program, but I need to complete 20 courses to complete the program. Anyway, between Touro and Nova, which school has a better DL program? Both are RA and are associated with a "brick and mortar" schools. not sure if any of them are ranked. Is one school known better as a DL institute vs the other? I've read some + comments from MBA students in Touro but anyone taking the MSITM?

    any comments, anyone?

    thanks.

Both are properly accredited, although Touro International University's accreditation comes from its home campus, Touro College.

Nova Southeastern University has the longer and broader set of DL experiences, being one of the true pioneers in this field. They enjoy a solid reputation.

Touro's degrees are 100% nonresidential. Nova Southeastern's doctoral programs all involve at least some residency; not insubstantial amounts, IIRC.

You will also have to consider which subjects you wish to study, each school's philosophy considering those subjects, learning methodologies, time spent in program, and many other factors.

Costs are more difficult to judge; you can't just go by the cost per credit our. Consider the number of credits for the degree, the amount of travel necessary, materials, and other fees.

Both result in a degree from an accredited school. However, Nova Southeastern is the better known of the two, and I somehow think that because it is not only a virtual school but also a residential one adds to its reputation.

Select the degree program that is right for you. Neither should cause you trouble in the future. That said, if I was magically offered a credential from either school, all other things being equal, I'd take the one from NSU. But because of its accreditation, Touro can be an acceptable choice, too.

You've got a lot of work ahead of you. Good luck!

Booth schools are regionally accredited and recommended. Personally, I am inclined to go with not-for-profit academic institution. My experience with Touro was excellent!

Several colleagues of mine have completed degree programs at Nova Southeastern and all have been very pleased with the quality of the program. Unfortunately, I do not have any direct experience with Touro, but there are Touro students and alumni who frequent this forum.

Both schools (Touro and Nova) are not-for-profit institutions, no?

To the original poster: I wouldn't let the number of courses in the Oregon program put you off. Many of these are "short courses," lasting only about 4 weeks. They have the schedule of courses posted online. It would still cost more than Touro or NSU though.

I would think that NSU would have a fairly good regional reputation in the southeast, whereas Touro is new and has likely not established a reputation as of yet. I'm not saying that NSU is necessarily any better, just more well known. Apart from reputation, one thing you might be able to do is compare syllabi for similar courses to see which one appears to provide the sounder program. I believe Touro syllabi are online, not sure about NSU. Perhaps if we ask nice, Touro students and NSU students will provide links for such documents.

When searching for graduate with DL MBA programs I looked at Touro because it was a name I was familiar with (the law school is located in NY)

But I believe the fact that a school is RA is the most important factor. Secondly would be the cost factor, Touro is cheaper than NSU.

Yes some schools are more well know than others, but then how does a school become well known, in time.

Yes, both Touro and NSU are not-for-profit and therefore recommended.

Nova has an okay faculty in Information Systems. I have read many good research papers coming from Nova Faculty and many of their graduates teach at good information systems faculties. For the other hand, Touro is new in the game and I haven't seen any article coming from a faculty member of this university.

I'd say that Touro is perhaps too new. Not many graduates and not a good or bad reputation yet.
