Hi- Just wondering if someone might know something about an MA in criminal justice that could be done via distance. Right now, in this initial stage, I'd like to find a basic, accredited program with tuition that's average/affordable. Any ideas? Mike Mc
A few options off the top of my head; Florida State University (actually an M.S. degree) Indiana State University (M.A. <thesis> or M.S. <non-thesis>) University of Wisconsin-Platteville (M.S. degree) Michigan State University (M.S. degree) If DETC accreditation is acceptable; American Military University has an M.A. program. You might want to look at Indiana State University. I am a year into the MS in Criminology program and have had positive experiences, thus far. I checked out most of the available on-line options and settled on ISU because of reputation, cost, and the fact they offer the degree in criminology; not criminal justice. Also, there is no GRE requirement; however, a few months ago I heard there was a waiting list to get in - I don't know if that is still the case. Although they recently had a tuition increase, they are still a great deal when compared with some other options. If you don't like what you see at ISU you might think about the following: Florida State University (Excellent Reputation) Boston University ($$$$$$$ - but excellent reputation) Tiffin University (an interesting program and very nice staff -IMHO) University of Wisconsin (Only 30 hours I believe and a well known school) Sam Houston State University (one of the flagship schools in criminal justice in Texas) Michigan State University (a reputation as being the "cream of the crop" in many circles) GOOD LUCK!
Very much the case. I applied in February, and was unceremoniously wait-listed, GREs or GPA be damned, because of the "overwhelming interest" in the program. It struck me as an outstanding balance between program quality and affordability. Too bad it "struck" me a few months too late. <g>
Master's degree in Criminal Justice If you can get past the odd-ball title of the degree... you might also consider the Master of Liberal Studies program at Fort Hays State University... they offer a concentration in Criminal Justice... and it is very affordable... see the link below: http://www.fhsu.edu/cids/mls_concentrations/crimjus.htm BruceP
If a British school would be acceptable, consider the offerings from the University of Leicester Master of Science in Criminal Justice Master of Science in Community Safety Master of Science in Forensic and Legal Psychology Total cost about $8000 for each of the programs listed. See the BA in 4 Weeks Master's Degrees by Distance Learning listing for the specific URLs. Lawrie Miller BA n 4 Weeks http://geocities.com/ba_in_4_weeks .
Thank you Thank you all for replying. That's a wealth of information to look into. For anyone who might have completed one of these programs, it would be interesting to hear an account of your experiences. Mike Mc
