CCU DBA and CPU MBA no longer listed in college catalog

The 2001-2002 catalog for the community college in my city listed its Industrial Management Department Head as having the following degrees:

    DBA, California Coast University
    MBA, California Pacific University

MALS, BS, AAS from RA schools
    Numerous certifications.

After an inquiry last year to the school administration as to their policy for listing degrees, the 2002-2003 catalog has just been released.

The CCU DBA and CPU MBA are not listed. One wonders why!

Is the same person still the department head, just without those degrees listed?

Other than the MBA/DBA all other credentials/certifications are excellent, and YES, the same person remains as department head. My hunch is that the MBA/DBA were obtained after securing employment, since neither degree is a requirement for the position.

First, I just checked the California Pacific website, and their MBA program is still listed there. Perhaps the updates lag the published catalog, but it would seem unlikely, as the website can be revised so quickly and easily.
    Hard to explain the discrepancy.

As to the California Coast DBA, I'm delighted to hear that it's gone. CCU (like SCUPS) was offering the DBA as a courses only doctorate with no research component. (To its credit, California Pacific DOES require a doctoral project for its DBA.) The CCU DBA was very short lived. They had offered and continue to offer a PhD in Business or Management, which requires a dissertation, as it should. They added the DBA about five years ago. Evidently it didn't catch on. Maybe prospective students questioned how one can obtain a DBA with no doctoral project, thesis, or dissitation. This is a positive development indeed. Now if SCUPS would likewise drop its courses only DBA, I'd break out the champagne.

Dave, you may want to actually read Russell's post... ;-)

    Dr. April:

I've been a (hesitant) fan of CPU for 22 years. Would you please e-mail me about your experiences in the DBA program? I'd love to hear about it. (Coincidently, I was stationed at Hanscom AFB outside Boston, and sent many students to BC for their MBA degrees.)

I can be reached at [email protected]

I would really appreciate hearing from you. After I finish my Ph.D. with UIU, I intend to start a DBA somewhere. I might consider CPU.

    Thanks.

No problem, Dave. Those CPU DBA's tend to do that. <grin>
