I was just told by the reporter in Las Vegas who is monitoring the Louisiana situation, because one of their sheriff candidates has a Bienville degree, that Bienville University has been ordered to close by September 30th. But they have already incorporated as Bienville University of Mississippi, and, even as we speak, the moving vans are probably backed up to the loading docks to move the campus over a couple of states. Has anyone learned any other results of the Louisiana Board of Regents meeting earlier this week? I haven't.
The Board of Regents met on Sept 25 or 26. The minutes will appear here: http://www.regents.state.la.us/Board/minutes.htm (not yet posted on Sept 27). For other recent threads on this topic see Bienville time bomb (discusses the Las Vegas candidate for sheriff). Louisiana: state-licensed schools (discusses Louisiana Board of Regents meeting).
Looking at past years, it appears they skip July but they should have a meeting in late August. So the minutes are at least a month out of date.
So proud graduates will be able to claim a BUM degree? Doesn't seem like a lot of thought was given to name selection. According to the web site, BUM will be awarding the Ph.D.s so maybe they should have gone with Bienville University Graduate School.
So that is what passed me on the Interstate today! I was commuting along, minding my own business, when out of nowhere came a 10-foot U-Haul. The moving van was traveling at an excessive rate of speed, 90-95 mph or so, and had a banner on the side which read Bienville University. Following the van was a convoy of automobiles with people yelling and screaming. Each person had what looked like a certificate or diploma. Only after reading John's post did I understand this strange encounter. The doctoral students were trying to get their Ph.D. diploma's signed before Bienville skipped the country.
