While looking for something else entirely on the site of the National Center for Education Statistics, I came upon a 2000 survey asking for satisfaction with DL courses compared to residential courses. Many subcategories of results, but the bottom line was:

    More satisfied with DL: 23%
    About the same: 47%
    Less satisfied: 30%

Well, my feeling is that the longer you've been doing it, the easier it is to forget the hour (or more) you used to spend commuting.

THis is entirely consistent with the "no signfiicant diffeence" results that have been talked about for years.

There really doesn't appear to be much difference in results (be it test scores or satisfaction) between DL and traditional instruction - all other things equal.

The "all other things equal" statement is a key here, however. Things are rarely equal between different schools and programs.

    Regards - Andy

Now that I reflect back on it, all of my external classes required more work than the in-resident classes.
