I'm interested in a Undergraduate Computer Science major and am looking at either Troy state Florida/Western Region or Touro. Does anybody have an opinion about these two schools? Thanks JDavidson
Touro is a RA school. I do not know anyone who graduated with an undergraduate degree, however if you do a thread search you will see that two members just completed their graduate work. Both had good things to say abiut the school. Good Luck
Both seem like pretty darn good choices. Each has its own advantages. Touro gets high marks from current and former students. I believe they include all textbooks on CDs without additional cost. The downside might be slightly higher tuition than TSU and TIU is kind of a strange name. The CS part of the degree entails 50% of the credits. Troy State has slightly lower tuition and is a state university. Their program is closer to a CIS degree than a CS major. They list exactly what CLEP and DANTES tests they accept on their web site. They consider CLEP tests to be senior university credits. If I were you, I would contact both schools and see how their program would fit your needs and how any credits might transfer.
Being in Louisiana makes you eligable for programs under the Southeran Regional Education board for lower tuition from other member states. Based on this Troy State would probably be lower cost. Take a look at the SREB site for other schools.
Troy State offers in state tuition for all of its DL programs. They come from the Florida and Western Regions campus which is part of the Troy State University, University College division.
Re: Re: Touro or Troy State Dave beat me to the punch. I looked at the website a few months ago when I heard about the program and had much the same thoughts. It seems to me that the tuition is quite reasonable, on the order of $150 US per credit, and that the program looked a lot like the UMass Lowell BSIS program where I am a student. I don't recall anyone ever posting about personal experiences with Troy State so if you do matriculate I'd be very interested to hear what you think about the program. In any event good luck. David
They list exactly what CLEP and DANTES tests they accept on their web site. They consider CLEP tests to be senior university credits... I could not find this information. Could you please provide the link? Thanks
I was able to find that link but I was looking for a list of CLEP exams that are considered upper level
Hi Randell They consider them senior university credit but not upper division. I found many traditional universities limit credits taken at community college to a certain number. TSU limits it to 50% of the credits applied to the degree. CLEP credits are often at the freshmen/sophmore level so I was concerned they might classify them as community college credit. So if you have 2 years of lower division credits plus quite a few CLEP credits you don't have to worry about the CLEPs being over the limit. Interestingly TSU accepts quite a few more CLEP credits than my local CC.
