Let me start by saying I'm looking for a BS in Business Admin with a major in Accounting. I'm a New Jersey Resident I have a AS in Business Admin already from a community college. I've been working in the accounting field for about 7 years now. Is there anybody out ther that can say what college is cheeper, faster, and better. Also is there anyone out there that can advise me on how long it would take. I really need some advice here.

First of all, I suggest you take a look at Lawrie Miller's site and read up on all the useful information he has to offer. Both schools are good and depending on your circumstances, they can both be equally fast. But since you are a New Jersey resident, TESC should end up being cheaper for you.

    Yes--TESC...

Yes--either will get the job done for you, but TESC is likely to be cheaper since you are a NJ state resident.
    GO for it!

also with 7 years of experience, you can probably translate some of that into portfolio/life credit.

TESC will accept a portfolio of work and tranlate it into credit

Excelsior will not do the traslation, but will acccept the credit if someone else has translated it

Excelsior has the really nice B.S Business degree with focus on NY CPA, but since you have to go through TESC anyway to get the credit, it might be best to do it all there for it will be cheaper.

Both have poor (substandard) customer service, I've stop recommending both of them to all of my students this year.

Exc rates the worse, TESC rates less than worse @ bad

These two places need to work on addressing student concerns, needs, level of service

I'm enrolled at Excelsior and thus far the customer service has been great. No complaints at all.

I agree that Excelsior does not have QUICK response to questions asked from students (atleast via email). I wouldn't say it is substandard, however. If it's the time it takes for an answer from them when you email questions, try calling it's alot quicker. As far as issues I have had in, for example, credit transfer, they have been VERY good to me.

I would think TESC's rates are the worst (atleast to non-NJ residents). Even when you are a resident Excelsior is cheaper. If you are prior military and finished a two year degree there, the enrollment fee for a BS (if I remember correctly) is around 600 dollars.

Perhaps the level of service one gets is based on which department one seeks advice/help. Maybe, the Liberal Studies department are quicker at answering your questions while the Technology department take much longer.

    Just a thought.

    Best Regards,

    Bill

    PS Barrows,

    I enrolled March of 2000.

    Mr Barrows...

Sounds interesting, Mr. Barrows. But could you be a little more specific about what you're seeking? What are you collecting data on?

Easy answer: TESC. Because you're in NJ, you can go directly to TESC or one of its satelite centers to take any exams. You can go to TESC personally to touch base with your program advisor, portfolio advisor, etc., and personal contact is always best - you have a face to associate with their names and, more important, they have a face to associate with your name. And, of course, you qualify for the in-state tuition rate.

How long will it take? No one can answer that - you haven't provided enough information. How many credits do you already have, if any? How many subjects can you ace by portfolio? There are too many variables to speculate but, if it helps, I can tell you that I had only six credits when I enrolled in TESC and finished my B.A. in Humanities a year and a half later (98 credits by portfolio, 16 by testing out, and my original six transferred in). I lived in PA about an hour from TESC and maintained personal contact there on a regular basis.

(In other words, those who complain about their customer service are whiners who don't know how to use a phone. I never had a problem with them, and found them very responsive.)

And, by God, if you are an accountant, do learn how to spell cheaper. (Should be accompanied by a grin, but the smilies aren't working.)
