I need 9 more upper division credits for my BS from COSC and was thinking about taking a couple of Army Correspondence classes. There are several that are listed as offering upper-division credits.

Does anyone know if they are listed on the AARTS transcipt under "Military Course Completions" I think this would be an easy, cheap way to finish my degree.

    Thanks.

I'm not familiar with Army education and training, but here's what I think. There are no Navy correspondence courses, that I know of, for which college credit is recommended. The Navy does not list correspondence courses on the SMART.

The info below from the AARTS web site might be of help.

"What is NOT included on the AARTS Transcript:
Awards; partial course completions (you must complete the entire course); college courses (even if paid for by the Army); correspondence courses (unless reported by ATRRS); training and job (MOS) history while enlisted with another service".

"Why isn't my correspondence course evaluated?
Most correspondence courses are not evaluated by ACE because they do not have a proctored end-of-course exam. Whether or not your institution will award credit for a correspondence course is up to them. You can, however, obtain a transcript from the Correspondence School to supplement your AARTS transcript".

Its a shame too. They have some pretty interesting external (DL) courses. The precalculus course is pretty good (I am using it to help prepare for the College Algebra/Trig CLEP). I would imagine they are not evaluated due to the final exams not being proctored?

Looks like the Army correspondence courses are not evaluated either (except two upper level management courses that Randell was probably referring to).

One option for active duty (and reserve/IRR marines) military is the Marine Corps Institute correspondence courses. They offer several course that are evaluated by ACE. If any Jr. Marines are reading this, you have to complete 5 of these courses to be eligible for promotion to Corporal (get your required MCI's completed and finish the minimum of 5 with MCI's that are evaluated that would apply to your MOS or degree field (I used Fundamentals of Digital Logic and Solid State Devices to complete my AAS in Tech Studies @ Excelsior [not to mention my MOS and 'A' school credit]).

Anyone else know of any other correspondence courses that are available to active duty, reserve and IRR military?

    Best Regards,
    Bill

    Not on AARTS Transcript

None of my Army correspondance courses are listed on my AARTS transcript.

As a side note, soldiers who take Army CBT courses on the web are enrolled through ATRRS, maybe there is a way to earn credit by going that route.

    Correspondance Courses

The only ones I know of right off hand would be the Army CBT courses (and I don't know if they are available to soldiers not on active duty). Soldiers who hold certain MOSs are able to take correspondance courses through the National Cryptologic School on Fort Meade, MD. A few courses I took through them transferred to Charter Oak.
