Compare the content of the website with Kingsfield University, mentioned in an earlier thread started by John Bear. Virtually identical text, list of subjects, etc.

Ashford University not in Dr. Bear's book

    Hello Dr. Bear,

I tried looking up Ashford University in the 14th edition with no luck. Any reason why it is not mentioned (even under the Mill section or Others)?

    Thanks,
    Eli

The most likely reason is that Ashford hadn't been invented when BG14 went to press. The domain was just registered four months ago.

As Malcolm notes, the wording on Ashford's site almost duplicates that of Kingsfield U. and at least two other sites I've found, making it likely these are generic mills from the same source. A good possibility would be the San Moritz, Palmers Green, et al. crowd.

Let us take a look at Ashford:

Where are they located? Doesn't say
Besides Thomas Garrington and Anne West name one other faculty or staff memeber? Coildn't find any
What is required (besides a check that clears) to obtain a degree? Not listed
    Accredidation? None listed

While a lot of this could be considered bad web design, the first conclusion that could be reached is that this is NOT one of your more wonderful educational institutions. While I am not positive, I beleive that I would be very questionable about any degree obtained from them.

Hint: think of grinding flour.

Why Ashford is not in Bears' Guide

Bill Gossett, as usual, is right. It simply did not exist at the time that edition went to press.

As a rough guess (final tallying will be done soon), there will be well over 100, probably close to 200 new diploma mill names in the 15th edition, when that emerges in 3 or 4 months.

    To quote Dr. Bear:
Wow! That's a lot of new diploma mills! It makes me wonder if there shouldn't be tighter restrictions on these illegitimate operations that prey on those who don't read DegreeInfo.com.
