A while ago, Lawrie Miller wrote:

"The Regents College exam (RCE AKA ECE) English Composition is three hours in length[....] Although most other RCE exams are computer based, the rules as written say that the essays should be done using paper and pencil. These rules can be scrutinized at the Sylvan/Prometric center where the exam is taken. I wrote this exam at a Sylvan center using paper and pencil.

However, my writing is near illegible to most people. I think I suffered in marking as a result. When it came time to write another RCE essay exam (Business policy and Strategy) I looked at the rules again and this exam too, it seemed, required paper and pencil format. I ignored that and wrote the exam in the basic word processor s/ware and submitted the material. The electronic transfer went fine (they accepted the document in that form) and it was duly marked.

So, I don't know what is going on there. The rule specifically said paper and pencil. Anyway, if your handwriting in poor, you may want to choose to use the computer, but do check the rules."

Likewise, my lefthanded handwriting is nearly illegible--has anyone else done as Lawrie has?

Anyone else have experience using Prometric's basic wordprocessing for the English Comp Exam?

    Any problems?
Because I wish to proceed the same way....

    writing exam

I never took the exam you mention, but I took the writing
portion of the PRAXIS exam at a Prometric test center; this
test was created by ETS and is a licensing exam for teachers.
    I didn't have any problems.

What is it? What do I use?

I took my first ECE exam at a Prometric exam center this week World Population, and I sit for the English Comp exam next Saturday.

What is the basic word processor that Lawrie mentions?--what does it look like?--is it like the one in the post exam survey that asks for comments?
Is it the one in the box (like the one's here)?

    A LITTLE HELP, PLEASE?

    Thanks.

My handwriting is not something to be proud of, I can read it (most of the time) but often other people can't.
I am absolutely convinced that graders are biased against "not pretty" handwriting, I did my best, taking my time to make it legible, I reviewed my work and was very satisfied on both legibility and content; It was graded "C".
My Prometric center did not provide me with an option, and the test rules called for a handwritten essay, so I can't tell you weather you will be able to use the word processor, but I can advise you to take your time and write ssloooowly; Three hours is plenty of time for a good essay, even if you take your time with every single letter.

    Thanks...

Thanks Guillermo. Should no other advice be forthcoming, I shall
    do precisely as you say!
