    Hi,

I am new here but have been reading some of the posts. I did a search for Atlantic University- http://www.atlanticuniv.edu, but couldn't find anything.

I know the school is DETC accredited, but wondered if anyone knew anything about it? It looks like a great program and very much of interest to me. They offer a Master's degree in Transpersonal Studies with various degree concentrations.

Just thought I would see if anyone on the board knew anything of them.

    Thanks!

    Hi, txgrl. Welcome.

I don't know a whole lot about Atlantic University. They seem to be a sincere effort, and as you point out, they are DETC accredited. The most distinctive thing about them is the fact that they are associated with the Edgar Cayce people, and apparently Cayce's readings are an integral part of the curriculum. That may be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what you think of Cayce.

If you are interested in transpersonal studies, you might also want to check out the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, California. They offer distance programs at both the masters and doctoral levels in transpersonal studies and psychology. They are regionally accredited. Their main page is at:

    http://www.itp.edu

Their distance masters programs in transpersonal studies and transpersonal psychology are here:

Another interesting offering is from Naropa University in Boulder Colorado. These people have just rolled out an online MA in transpersonal psychology that requires one week's residency in Boulder each year (it's a two year program).

I haven't compared costs, but I'd suspect that both ITP and Naropa are more expensive than Atlantic. You will have to weigh that against the greater utility of an RA degree.

Given that transpersonal studies is kind of an avant-garde field, it may matter a little less whether or not the degree is regionally accredited. A lot depends on how and where you intend to use it, I guess.
