This month I was in Fort Lauderdale so I decided to visit the Nova campus. I was really impressed both by the physical facilities and the beautiful landscaping. They are building a fabulous business school and the new library is beautiful. It's definitely worth the visit!:)

For those considering DL degree options, the NSU campus is a point worth noting. Unlike some of its totally virtual competitors, NSU has made a huge investment in physical facilities. This is needed to support the wide range of on-campus and on-line programs (law, psychology, medicine, education, computer science, undergrad, etc.) that NSU operates. With 17,000 students and all of these programs NSU is in it for the long haul. Furhter, if one program should falter the institution has so many others that NSU will still be around. If I were looking at totally virtual competitors I'd think about this.

Besides indicating something about the "staying" power of NSU, these facilities have some real impact on students. For example, besides the six story on-campus libary, I've found the on-line holdings at NSU stronger then I've seen at any DL competitior. The new business school is also going to be an asset for students on-campus for seminars. Part of the reason that NSU needs a new business school building is that they need more classroom space and offices for full-time faculty and staff. NSU does maintain a full-time staff that teach about 1/3 of the credit hours. Adjuncts are great to add variety and current practice. But who are you going to call with program questions or for help?

While many students look for totally on-line programs, NSU still requires face to face interaction with faculty in weekend and week long residencies. Having learned and taught both on-line and on-ground - I strongly prefer some degree of face to face interaction. On-line learning can be lonely and it lacks much of the socialization aspect. Seeing peers and working with them in class is a great asset.

    Thanks - Andy

I can't agree more. I was able to get a tour of the new allied health buildings before they opened and were quite impressive. A new business school is in the workd. It is also important to note the impressive new library facility which I now believe is the largest library in Florida.
