I have no idea about it's MBA program, but I do know my professor for a graduate public policy class (Dr. Meyer who teaches full time at Drake) recommended them to me for their PhD in Public Administration program.

As with any non-elite college/university the utility is probably highest in the same state that they are located. The farther away the less connections you can utilize and that's 1/2 of what a MBA is about.

FAU is a RA and AACSB accredited research university. MBA from FAU is highly regarded. Their online program should be good. I have a friend doing his MSCS thro DL (FEEDS). He likes the program. I have attended their SBDC sessions and the faculty are very informative. Their PHD program runs in collaboration with FIU another state University. But FIU's online program is "very" expensive compared to FAU. If you are a florida resident you can try Florida Gulf Coast University's online MBA (It is RA and AACSB accredited)

In the time since this was posted, has anyone else had experience with FAU's online MBA? I'm living in Fort Lauderdale and finishing a Bachelor's through Charter Oak and expect to have in state tuition by the time I'm done. FAU's accreditations and low cost make it a follow up worth considering.

That's interesting. FGCU is also attractive to me because they recently started sponsoring the Caribbean Studies Association, and I have a strong interest in that part of the world.

What are the differences between the FGCU and FAU programs?

these are all good questions. i am looking hard a nova because of their entrepreneurship program. if nothing changes in the next few months, i will go to nova. i have never had a classroom experience and i intend to get at least a taste of it just for the experience of it. plus their program fits me well. i can do the first half in tampa then figure something out for the second half that isn't offered in tampa. also my sweety is going for her mba at the same time. she is still undecided.

i moved here in oct from texas so, i am not sure how the whole recidency thing works yet.

we want to get our mba from either texas or florida. this will keep us from ever having to explain to the knuckleheads.

west texas a&m has a good mba for texas residence for 3700.00 not too shaby. that is a few miles down the road from where i used to live.

still am open to comments or suggestion for me and my wife. i think i am set on nova but, sept is a long way away.

FAU's MBA is well regarded down here. If you want to teach at an AACSB school or get a heavy duty finance certification, you may need to graduate for an AACSB school.

I'm currently in Nova's MBA program in Entrepreneurship and since I intend to start a business, the AACSB doesn't bother me. Nova's program is awesome because all of the professors have real world experience and all have doctorates. Compared to FAU, though, Nova is expensive but doesn't require a GMAT. Nova was a better pick for me because of location to my home and the program they offer. Nova has also poured in alot of money into their new Huizenga building and sponsors many events that bring in are business people.

It all depends on what you're looking for in the future.

I am currently in FGCU's distance MBA program. I also applied to FAU's program. Since I have not graduated, I can't remark on 'degree recognition'. But I have some insight in regards to the curriculum.

Comparing the two programs, FGCU is a bit more stringent in its core and foundation courses. Distance learning students should not count on an MBA specialization either due to limited course offerings. Instead, their MBA will have an 'interdisciplinary focus'. The College of Engineering has a close relationship with FGCU's b-school, and quite a few of the professors also teach MIS and engineering courses (in addition to being engineers themselves). There is a bit of leaning on quantitative methods and tools. So be prepared for this.

FAU offers a slightly more management/leadership oriented curriculum and you have more credits free for your specialization (12 as compared to FGCU's 9). The tuition and fees are slightly higher. Also, the school is older (1964 vs. FGCU's 1997) so the alumni base and networking opportunities are larger.

In the end, I chose FGCU due to its straightforward curriculum, lower cost (tuition and fees are less than FGCU), small class sizes and the opportunity to participate in an MBA program with no pre-set 'culture' to conform to. Also there are no on-campus requirements. FAU 'may' have this in that all MBA students must take a business communications course which seems like a speech course; which cannot be done completely online. Not 100% sure about that though!

Just an update on this; I actually was able to specialize in marketing (via the online program). :stickp4:
