I'm looking for an online MBA program that will meet the following criteria. The federal agency I work for will pay for my MBA, but only up to 6 credit hours per semester. So, I need a program that can be finished at least 3 - 3 1/2 years (not the 24 month only variety). I want a well respected MBA program and I am looking at Indiana Kelley school online, Umass online Amhurst, and Michigan (dearborn or flint) but I am open to other suggestions for schools. I don't mind commuting to a campus but would like to only go for a week or a weekend each year. I am in the early stages of my journey...I haven't taken the GMAT as of yet but would like some advice on the best way to prepare myself. Other schools I am looking at include Morehead State, Ohio U, Empire State, Georgia State, babson and others...what are your thoughts on some of these schools and others. I purchased Bear's guide to the best MBA's by distance learning which was very helpful in terms of accreditation, list of schools, and GMAT study tips but I still feel alittle overwhelmed at this point. Thanks in advance for responses and I hope someone will provide some assistance.

I am currently enrolled in Empire State undergraduate program. I looked at the MBA program. I spoke with other students currently enrolled. Everyone I spoke with liked the program, except the residency requirements. Other than that, they felt they were getting a good educational background.

The only reason I chose not to pursue my MBA there was because of the price.

Look at Touro, they seem to have a good program, no GMAT required, no book cost.

    Good Luck

I assume you are not in the military otherwise Touro would be a good option (it is free to military after TA and as mentioned no book costs).

Another school to consider is Liberty University. http://www.liberty.edu They have a DL MBA that requires one or two calsses be taken on campus (week long session) the rest is delivered via VHS tape. No religious requirments for off campus students.

Another suggestion is to look at the Columbia Southern thread on this board. They have apparently partnered with the University of Alabama and the degree is awarded by the University of Alabama (I guess UAL uses the CSU courses). The benefit of this is that as I remember the thread the U of A business school is accredited by the professional business accrediting agency A...something or other (can you tell I am not a business major). So, if you are looking for some prestige at reasonable cost that may be it.

If cost is not an object (which it apparently isn't), then the three you mentioned are great choices. Whatever program you do decide on, go for a school that has AACSB accreditation in addition to regional accreditation. Such schools are usually more expensive, but if Uncle Sam is picking up the tab, it would be crazy not to.

Another well-known DL school with a AACSB accredited MBA is Colorado State University.

I agree with Bruce, if Uncle Sam is going to pick up the tab then you have a wider list of options to choose from - which is great. I chose Touro's program because it met my cost and accreditation requirements (military TA, no books, and RA). But, I did find an unexpected benefit to Touro that I wasn't considering when I looked at other MBA programs.

Before I chose my MBA program I had narrowed the list to three programs: University of Maryland’s online MBA program, Touro, and Averett College (which was local with an evening, on-campus program designed for adults). U of M and Averett both use the “cohort” philosophy. Meaning, they have 15 or so students start the program together, work together throughout the next two years, and graduate as a cohort. While you can take a semester off and then rejoin a different cohort, it sort of defeats the purpose and makes you an outsider to the group.

I didn't expect to take any semesters off for any reason, but life's funny that way. I took two semesters off for different and unexpected reasons. I am glad that I chose Touro, for unrelated reasons, because each there they don't follow the cohort system. This might be something for you to consider; it certainly wasn't something I thought about.

By the way, I was very, very pleased with Touro and am even thinking about returning for a Ph.D. Best of luck in finding your perfect match!

My short list consisted of UMass Amherst, U. of Florida, Indiana, Penn State and U. Maryland- Univ. College. I went with UMass because of the lower cost, AACSB accreditation, and no campus visit requirements.

Georgia State is terrific too, but I don't think they have an online program.

    Best of luck!

I did not know that the University of Maryland had an on line MBA like Indiana-Kelley. I searched www.rhsmith.umd.edu and no luck. They have a part time MBA, but it is very difficult to get in (average GMAT = 660). Can you send me info on this program as getting a top 25 MBA on line is very appealing to me.

Because it was not UMD but UMUC, different school (see previous "exhaustive" "discussion" on why UMUC is NOT UMD (dull!).

    Try UMUC Online GRaduate Programs

    I know

I was involved in that discussion. It's just that the poster said the University of Maryland's Online program, of which there isn't one. There is a UMUC online program.

Sorry to nitpick but I'd genuinely buy if Smith started an online program.

I, too, went with Touro...largely for the same reasons (active duty military, RA, etc). You will not be displeased with Touro's MBA program.

    Flexible, comprehensive, accomodating...
