Since I re-enlisted in the Army Reserve, I can take CLEP and DANTES exams for free and wanted to take advantage immediately.

Without ANY study, I took the DANTES - Introduction to Law Enforcement and DANTES - Introduction to Criminal Justice and passed both easily. I completed each test in about 40 minutes and I don't have any background in either subject.

Most of the questions are common sense. Thanks to everyone for posting information about exams.

About the CLEP and DANTES exams....

...I see you were able to take them for free. But can they be taken by anyone (even if there is a fee), or must you be in the military?

Both series can be taken by anyone. The DANTES tests were originally created for the military, but are now available to civilians through a subsidiary of Educational Testing Services. There are fees associated with both programs.

Information on the CLEP series can be found here, and for the DANTES series, here.

Thanks guys, now if I can just get Excelsior...

...to answer my emails and give me a little help on my final 5 units, maybe I can get this thing done!:D

A quick question from my wife......

...If she wanted to take some of the DANTES or CLEP tests, should she first be enrolled at someplace like Excelsior so that there is someplace to send the results, or can she wait until she completed more of her requirements? Right now I think the local J.C. has testing for DANTES and / or CLEP (forgot wish).

BTW: after some talking, I was able to get Excelsior to give me back the 2.67 units they took away earlier this month.

I have waited to enroll in a school. I figured out what exams I needed and started taking them. When I got to about 80 credits, I send my transcripts to COSC for an official eval. I did not enroll right away because TESC, Excelsior, and COSC charge by the year.

Both CLEP and DANTES offer the option of either sending the results as soon as the scores are available, or waiting. The test center should have transcript request forms, use these to send the scores whenever she decides which school to enroll with.
