Hello, I know that this has been discussed, but I would like some advice as to which of the "big 3" is best for me? Really looking for cheapest as I will be using mainly clep exams. I have lots of work experience and am certified in my field. Also, lots of travel and work abroad. Have been a professional musician and an army veteran so you see I have had a varied past. Please direct me to a past thread or rehash the subject, whatever you feel most helpful.
thanks in advance for your help, John

Why don't you look into UALR, they should be about the cheapest given your residency, are close enough that you can drive to the school to use their library and other resourses if you need to, and you will never have to explain the difference between traditional and DL programs.

Wes, thanks for the reply, but I live in Fort Smith which is several hours away from ualr. However, I could go through u of a fort smith. I just thought that it would be easier and faster to use one of the other schools. Also, I really do not want to attend classes....

The University of Arkansas has a DL program, both at FS and LR. You can structure the program to fit your needs. When you say you don't want to attend classes, I assume you mean that you don't want to do the traditional degree but prefer to do DL. Or are you planning on doing it by some other means?

Yes, I want to do it by DL. I was going to try and use experiential learning and take clep, FEMA, and GRE exams to gain credit. I believe this is what was shown on Lawrie Miller's site. Anyway, I had no idea that UofA would structure a program such as this, I would love to graduate from there. BTW, isn't this approach going to be more costly than say, TESC? You pay about $4K per year there, and I can complete the requirements with them within that timeframe. Also, would I have to pay per credit hour tuition at u of a when using the clep exams? That would add up to about $8K or so by my estimation.

Beats me. You are in Arkansas and as such would qualify for in-state tuition. My former wife taught at UALR for two semesters when we lived in Little Rock and I recall that tuition was really very inexpensive. Why don't you call over to the school and speak to them about their DL program and see what they say about your residency. The really nice thing about it, if you need a particular course or two to finish and it isn't offered DL, you might be able to take it in the traditional manner.

Wes, that is actually a great point re: taking a course or two. I will call them and see what we can do about it. The chancellor at uafs is a member here at the club so maybe he can help me clear a path on any difficulties, so to speak.
