Legal - yes. As per their website they are without any accreditation.

If the degree is for personal interest only, fine. If you are hoping to use it as an academic qualification for employment or teaching, you will probably be severely disappointed.

Read some of the posts about accreditation issues on these forums and see what the sharks have to say about unaccredited schools.

No. To learn more, read the threads on this and other boards about accreditation, state licensing and the like.

Rich, Rich, Rich..... be kind. She is new.... maybe she even has a life and doesn't spend all of her waking moments at the computer arguing over schools and accreditation and "outing".....

    Ellen,

The advice given to you on the telecampus board and the advice given here sums it up. If you want help in finding a "better" academic institution I am sure many here would be overjoyed to help you.

When Central Pacific first came on the scene, they were discussed and dissected on the old a.e.d.....what I remember most is a huge portion of their faculty had degrees from unaccredited schools. The same guy was the department chair of both the music and aviation departments, and the chair of the religion department, in addition to having all unaccredited degrees, had perhaps the goofiest picture I've ever seen. Shortly after that, the faculty listings were pulled from the website.

    Legal...yes. Legitimate.....not in my opinion.

Perhaps she and others would be best served if you stayed on topic instead of answering me. Learning about licensing and accreditation is good for any consumer of higher education, particularly one considering "attending" such a school.

In other words, put a sock in it.

Simple decorum prevents me from telling you where you can put.

Look at the entire thread. Who is the only one posting rude comments? I suggested that you lighten up and I repeat the suggestion. Just because a new member asks a question that has been answered 1000 times before doesn't mean you have to answer in a rude manner. "No" is not an appropriate answer when someone asks for help. If you don't want to answer, don't but why be rude to them?

And I don't need you to tell me to put a sock in it.

She asked a simple question. I gave a very simple answer, with some advice on how to equip herself for her exploration.

Perhaps you mis-read the question and answer. She asked if it was legitimate. I said no, and suggested she do some reading to get up to speed on accreditation and state licensing. No harm in either point, and there was nothing rude about it. At any rate, I'm sure she could express herself if she determined that.

If you have something against me, take it up with me in private. It is inappropriate to jump in like you did with a public comment about me. Don't expect me not to respond.

Perhaps we can just let it drop.

Ellen, do yourself a huge favor. Only consider an accredited degree. Don't spend the rest of your life defending. apologizing or justifying a non-accredited degree. RA may be no more work and not much more money!:)

She asked "Can anyone give me some guidance"

    You responded "No"

I didn't jump on you, I only said you should be more kind to her...and I think I did it in a very joking manner.

You responded "put a sock in it"

No, Rich, I don't have a problem with you, or at least I didn't think I did. You are either very thin skinned or having a bad day and I got in the way.

But, you are right, lets just let it drop.....

The demon of non-verbal clues rears it ugly head again. Then again, most of us do not write or interpret contracts and such for a living. :D While Rich may have dropped the ball according to logical english, in conversational english "most" knew what he meant.

No offense meant to either party. Have a grand night.

Excellent suggestion, read about accreditation, RA (Regional Accreditation) is the normal expected standard within the USA. DETC is second rate accreditation but, is far superior to no accreditation.

A cheap easy place to start is right here. http://www.degreeinfo.com/article12_1.html
