Hey! This is my first time on here! I was wondering about an online Anthropology degree. It has been my dream to earn a degree in Anthropology/ Archaeology, but it has been very difficult finding a school. I live in Michigan and I've graduated with an Associate's degree in Science and Art with sixty-two credits. I also work full - time for a cosmetic counter! I've been told that it isn't ideal to earn my degree online, but I do not make enough at my job to move right now and the closest school is a community college. I am twenty-six, so I am a non-traditional student. I went to apply at the University of Central Florida, but I needed two years of a foreign language in high school and SAT/ACT scores. I don't have either of those. So, it's been difficult finding a reputable school, plus one that doesn't require those. I've been searching for a school with an online option that offers a degree in Anthropology/Archaeology, not too expensive, and doesn't require proctoring (the whole webcam thing bothers me.) I am really excited about going back to school, but I just need to find one that doesn't necessarily think of me as an incoming eighteen year old student.. If you have the time to respond back to my message, I would greatly appreciate it. P.s. Are there schools that only focus on Anthropology/Archaeology & related? Like a trade school? I am looking to earn a Bachelor degree. Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day! Sincerely, Jaimie
Have you checked any of the following: University of Florida https://ufonline.ufl.edu/degrees/undergraduate/anthropology/ Oregan State Curriculum -- Anthropology -- Undergraduate Degrees Online | Oregon State Ecampus | OSU Degrees Online Arizona State https://asuonline.asu.edu/online-degree-programs/undergraduate/bachelor-arts-anthropology Colorado State https://www.online.colostate.edu/degrees/anthropology/ Southern New Hampshire https://www.snhu.edu/online-degrees/bachelors/ba-in-anthropology
Yes, but Oregon State, ASU and Uni. Florida needed the foreign language requirements and Oregon also wanted 180 credits instead of 120. ASU and Colorado State use proctors. As for SNHU.. is it reputable? One of my old Anthropology professors told me that when applying for a job, it's going to look bad if I got my degree at an online school like Uni. of Phoenix, etc.. is SNHU like that? I don't know much about those schools, so I am not trying to offend anyone! He just told me that an employer would hire some one with a university degree like UofM MSU, etc.. Should I even worry about what my professor said? Also, I don't think SNHU has archaeology courses. Thank you so much for your time. I really appreciate your help. It's just been so difficult!
"Oregon also wanted 180 credits instead of 120." That would be 180 quarter hours, which is the same as 120 semester hours. "One of my old Anthropology professors told me that when applying for a job, it's going to look bad if I got my degree at an online... Should I even worry about what my professor said?" No! In one major study, for instance, employers preferred people who had done on-line degrees, since it showed they were capable of unsupervised independent work.
SNHU is a traditional non-profit "brick and mortar" university. In recent years, their online enrollment has skyrocketed. My immigration attorney did his undergraduate studies at SNHU (assuming on campus) before attending law school at the University of Illinois (ranked #44 best Law School by U.S. News). You can check out SNHU's overall ranking by US News https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/southern-new-hampshire-university-2580 All the best!
Look for museum studies - some time ago I found several on-line programs (although they may have been at the graduate level).
