My son is considering going to this school to get trained in cyber security and get his IT certifications. He would use his GI Bill to pay for his training. It is ACCET accredited. A little background on him--he will be discharged from the Navy next August after serving almost 10 years in a law enforcement capacity. He has a dual degree in business and psychology from UT-Dallas. I thought he was going to use his GI Bill for a masters in psychology but he abruptly changed his mind and has now shown an interest in the aforementioned. He wishes to stay in the Southern Cal/San Diego area and of course this is an expensive place to live, especially without the subsidies he now gets from the government. So....what do y'all make of this? Thanks for your advice. www.ciat.edu
The programs at CIAT certainly look well put together. The school stresses hands-on experience. However, has your son considered Western Governors University (www.wgu.edu) ? They offer a Master’s in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance for less than $3000.00 per 6-month semester with industry related certifications built into the degree. The school is also military friendly. It seems like he could get the same IT credentials/training/certifications and still end up with an inexpensive graduate degree. Hope this helps.
I don't know about their quality, but $36,855 for an associate degree in software development seems to be very, very high for a NA degree. If NA is not an issue, Pennfoster and Ashworth college have associate programs that are way cheaper (probably at 10% of that amount).
Your son might want to check out: https://ivmf.syracuse.edu/veteran-and-family-resources/ Also, Raytheon has a Cybersecurity training and paid internship program. I believe they hire you after you graduate from the program with mentors. That is the easiest way to step into the Cybersecurity and Information Security field. Another thing that a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification is outweighed a Master in Information Security or Cybersecurity degree. If one does not have 5 years experience can certify as an Associate level. Other for Free Cybersecurity training is: Cybrary. It , or Skillport for Veteran at https://govport.skillsoft.com
