Someone had requested info on CJ PhD's and I can't find the thread and do not know if this was mentioned. Northcentral U (candidate for RA) has a PhD in Business Administration that can be focussed on Criminal Justice Administration. http://www.ncu.edu Click on the link for the PhD in Business and scroll down. Mmmm... Do most of the coursework when they are not RA = lower tuition cost. After they get RA, prices will jump (naturally). Mmmmm.....
Just a few minor points....the degree is in CJ Administration, which is a lot different from pure Criminal Justice. It's most definitely a business degree, with required courses in accounting and marketing, something you won't see in a CJ doctoral program. It also lacks what you would expect to see in a CJ doctoral program, such as advanced Criminological Theory. And, I would reinforce what has already been said about Northcentral...they are a candidate for RA, but that's certainly no guarantee that it will be granted, so enrolling now is a bit of a crapshoot. Re: Re: Northcentral PhD with Criminal Justice Emphasis Good input Bruce. CJ is not my field and I suppose there may be differences in career use between pure CJ & CJ Administration. I also agree that NCU is a gamble. The odds are in their favor that they will get full accreditation, but there is also a chance they will not. Someone can gamble and end up with a much less expensive PhD...........flip side..............gamble and end up with an expensive unaccredited degree. North
Re: Re: Re: Northcentral PhD with Criminal Justice Emphasis I agree that NCU will most likely gain RA in the future, but I'm not a gambling man. Believe me, it was very tempting for me when I saw the CJA option, but combining the uncertainty of NCU gaining RA with the fact that I don't want a disguised business degree was enough to dissuade me from applying. Re: Re: Re: Re: Northcentral PhD with Criminal Justice Emphasis About 15 years ago International graduate School was viewed as a certainty for RA status. Never happened. Don't count the chickens...
So does anyone know how Northcentral is doing with it accreditation status. When are they expected to move beyond candidacy. John
Northcentral University is scheduled for an evaluation team visit on October 14-16, 2002 and they appear to be making satisfactory progress toward initial accreditation.
