it's a British thing https://www.bigissue.com/news/national-extension-college-a-second-chance-at-learning/
This is more about Skills, Carrer skills, for example, management, they train to take Chartered Management Institute's level 5 Award, Certificate, Diploma and Extended Diploma in Leadership and Management. Diploma level 5 is accredited and listed on RQF. Its academic value is of Foundation degree or second year of UK university. Universities in the UK will accept such qualification into the final year of a bachelors degree in Business etc. These qualifications of CMI are well regarded, managers are interested in such qualifications and training in the UK. And in the future with additional study and experience may allow progression all the way to a Chartered Manager designation.
Quite a bit, but not all - they have Art History, Art Techniques, Creative Writing... even a Latin course. YAY! I like it. J.
In UK, the field is crawdad - I mean crowded - with competitors. There goes one, now! Oxford Learning College. No relationship to Oxford University and none claimed. They're both in Oxford. https://www.oxfordcollege.ac/ Ooh, here's another "Oxford." Again, no relationship claimed to the 800-year-old University. Home Study Courses | Home Study Colleges | Study at Home Courses | Oxford Home Study College When you get up to levels 4, 5 or beyond - these schools get quite expensive, as you'll see. I was thinking of enrolling in one that taught Islamic Banking and Finance - but I decided to read the wealth of free material instead. I've already profited by several years of riba-free life (riba=interest, usury) and maybe I can put money saved into a halal mutual fund instead of a course. Halal investing is quite a bit like ethical investing - no companies that deal in weapons, gambling, pork, alcohol and a few other things. Just can't see how a formal qualification would benefit me. Done with work - don't want a job. J.
Imagine yourself saying: Ahem... My qualifications are from Oxford . . . .Home Study College.
