I am in Jamaica and I found this ad in The Gleaner for Edinburgh Napier University offering online masters and DBA.

It's available no matter where you live. This is just a local ad. Why else would the school call it GLOBAL online MBA? The UK home page is here: Global online MBA

Discussed on DI lots of times, including:

Right. Not bad at all. $9,900 is the typical MBA price I've seen quoted for this school. The Bachelor's are all top-up degrees. They require an associate degree in a business discipline for entry. You're basically paying $5,400 or so for one year's instruction; for a British Uni. of good repute, that's not bad at all. If the associate's is in a non-business discipline, there's a bachelor's by top-up for that, too -- more modules (and cost).

The Master's degrees have a $2,000-$3,000 fee in the fine print for dissertation, in addition to the tuition. Still a good deal. And $28,500 for a British DBA of good standing - not bad at all, if that's the desired degree.

Prices good for Caribbean and the Americas, so I guess you or I could get the same deal from Canada. I'd rather do it from Jamaica, but I can't afford to live there year-round ...or WAIT a minute - Jamaicans can, so maybe there's a way! Oh, to NEVER shovel snow again! ....

Not that expensive to live outside the resorts.

Phdtobe: Jamaica's not expensive outside of the resorts...

    Johann: I'm looking into it.

Justin Trudeau: Why? You can smoke 'dank' legally in Canada next year!

Johann: Yeah - in a freakin' ice storm! That's not why I'm looking!

Maybe not, but Jamaica has more than its share of very rough neighbourhoods.

Quick check - Kingston, 1-2 bedroom, gated community, security, works out to $320-400/mo U.S.
But then, you have to leave the complex sometimes, right?

Food, public transportation, and eating out, fairly inexpensive.

I'm sure that's true. What I was getting at was Steve's caution about rough neighbourhoods. I'm thinking anyone - especially a newcomer - could easily get into the "wrong" place and suffer the consequences.

This is true virtually everywhere. I've walked through some tough neighborhoods in Providence/Boston without much worry mostly because I'm a familiar face. Outsiders have a whole big added level of risk.

Yes. Especially if, like me, they're 75 and lack ninja training. Easy mark. 1-2-3-Dead!

Jamaica's murder rate is nine times that of the U.S.

The resorts aren't surrounded by barbed wire for nothing. But hey, if you want to think Providence is as dangerous as Kingston, it's your funeral.

Well if my postings stop then you know what happened. Anyway, my spouse and I are staying downtown Kingston, not in a resort. Today we went working and had almost no problem. There is a lot of security everywhere.

Holy crap! Then it must be MANY times the Canadian rate! So I checked... it is!

    Jamaica (2015) 45.0 murders per 100,000 people.
    Canada (2015) 1.68 murders per 100,000 people.

Yep - Jamaican rate is roughly 26.8 times the Canadian rate! I'll take my chances here, even if many of these are criminals killing criminals - drugs, gangs etc. Not sure of my ability to dodge stray bullets. Darn ... no reggae holiday for me, I guess.
