Hi everyone. So happy to have found this forum. I'm embarrassed to say I am 47 years old and do not have a college degree. I need to get an associates quickly so I can apply for a certified teaching assistant position in the next year here in New York. I just read the wiki and am going to make my spreadsheet and follow the guidelines. However, I am wondering what associates would be better for me? Human Services? Or general studies? Also, I am planning on starting with that free Kaplan LRC100 course but want to make sure one of the Big 3 accepts the credits? I apologize for sounding like a total newb. TIA for your help!!!

The Kaplan LRC100 is not for credit anymore (I updated the thread to reflect that a few months ago). Do you have any other college credits from previous studies?
If you do, enter in the name of the school and the classes you have taken along with the grade/credits (all grades D and higher, failed grades won't transfer).
I can create a spreadsheet of an AA degree or a Bachelors for you. You should start with the FREE courses and ALEKS, then work on Straighterline/Study.com

Thank you so much. Unfortunately I have no credits. Only life experience. Thanks for the info on the Kaplan class. I still see it listed as 3 credits. I must be reading it wrong. I'm sorry. This is all so new and I am overwhelmed. Just so I am understanding, I should do these first? And I would so appreciate a spreadsheet. Thank you!!!

Read the Beginners Guide Link Here: http://www.degreeinfo.com/general-distance-learning-discussions/52647-beginners-guide-getting-cheap-fast-college-credit.html
Spreadsheets are located on Post#41: http://www.degreeinfo.com/general-distance-learning-discussions/52647-beginners-guide-getting-cheap-fast-college-credit-3.html#post508308
Start with the FREE Sources of Credit (used for free electives) in my signature, it'll net you credits without a fee and get the ball rolling/get you acquainted with non proctor credits.

To continue on, use ALEKS for general elective credits and the required Math credits - Beginner/Intermediate/College Algebra, Precalculus OR Trigonometry, and Statistics (any of the 3).
Following this, it will net you ONE full year of credits all for the price of $20 dollars, yes, you read that right - over 30 credits for only $20! Decide on a BALS or BSBA instead of an AA.
Please use this thread as your accountability/progress thread, and if you have questions, we will try to answer it in this personal thread of yours. Good luck on your journey!
