I received information in the mail today concerning Liberty's DL program. I am interested in the Masters program, particularly counseling. I was curious if anyone on this forum has experience with Liberty's program. It is cost effective, the seminary program is $150.00 per credit hour for Pastoral Counseling. This is ten dollars cheaper per credit hour than ACCS. It appears to be a good program that has RA accreditation, however it does require six hours of modular learning on campus. I am shopping around for a good program and so I am seeking any information available. Thanks!:)

    BMAN,

I'm enrolled in the MBA program, and I'm not familiar with the seminary programs.

I am very pleased with Liberty University. My professors have promptly responded to all of my questions. The administrative staff has been extremely helpful, too.

I have found their seminary classes to be high quality. I can compare them favorably to graduate classes at a State U. The Intro to Pastoral Counseling class with Dr. Scott was good, and integrates secular methods and terminology with Christian perspective quite well.

I have also gotten nothing but good and timely advice from advisors at the school.

As an undergraduate, I was an on-campus student at LU, and then completed the final year of my BS in Biblical Studies through the DL program. So, I had the advantage of getting to know many of the professors on a face-to-face basis before undertaking DL study. I actually served as an assistant to the man who now holds the position of dean of the seminary.

I had a very positive experience in the DL program. However, I also can vouch for the professors with whom I interacted, many of whom also teach at the seminary level. There are a couple of less-than-spectacular instructors/scholars at Liberty. However, there are many more very excellent figures there.

As an institution, Liberty has been on the up-and-up over the course of the last 5 years. It is safe to say that Liberty is stronger than it has ever been.

Can't speak for the Pastoral Counseling program, however, I completed the Masters in Professional Counseling program in 1993. The only instruction I had problems with was Tim Clinton and he is gone.

I would highly recommend the program. It meets the qualifications for licensing in most states. I passed the LPC exam in Alabama on the first attempt.

I have a question - how does the seminary assess competence? What is a general reading/writing load with seminary classes there?

    Kindly,

    It's good to know...

It's good to know that--whatever else one thinks of the much maligned founder, Reverend Jerry Falwell--he's been leading an effort towards an unqualified good: quality educational opportunity!

PS Several years ago, a famous incident did not happen: Falwell
NEVER called a certain teletubby character gay. It was a put up smear job by a newspaper writer. (See his web site and search "teletubby" for corrective details.)

Greetings! Just a quick note...I have been a Liberty test proctor and generally have not been impressed with similar fundamentalist schools. However, I must admit that the Liberty undergraduate program seems sound and rather main stream.

Hope this helps. By the way, the cost is one of their strongest selling points.

Every once in a while I troll through old posts when they are recommended at the bottom. I don't know that I've ever resurrected one this dead before. But I had to.

This poster - from 10 years ago! - noted that the only LU professor that he had trouble with was Tim Clinton "and he's gone."

The irony is that Dr. Clinton (the president of the American Association of Christian Counselors) is now the "Executive Director of the Center for Counseling and Family Studies at Liberty University."

I'm in their undergrad program in psychology. I have enjoyed my studies so far and have contemplated doing their Pastoral Counseling masters. I would say, you will not find a cheaper school to get your masters in ministry online. I like the program there, I know that Surf got his Ed.S at Liberty. I'm not going to testify for anyone else, but I find that you get what you put into the program (that goes for any degree, at any college).

I completed a few upper-level coaching classes through Liberty and became a member of AACC after completing them. Liberty has some type of partnership with Light University, which handled the lectures for the two classes I took. I also received certificates from Light University after completing those classes. Tim Clinton was in a few videos on various topics, and is all of the AACC mail I receive pretty regularly.
