I was somewhat surprised to discover that both California State University-Dominguez Hills and California State University-Northridge have Masters degree programs in Public Administration (offered through DL of course - 100% non-residential). The replication of DL programs within this system seems unusual...Why have two identical DL programs within the CSU system? Is it really so popular a degree program that California had to produce two separate programs? Is there something essentially different about the two programs? I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who might shed some light on these issues.
    Thanks,
    Jack

    IDEA...

Can you say Northern California?--Southern California?
Two halves of the most populous state in the union?
    (Just my guess.)

CSUDH and CSN are about 30 miles apart and both in Los Angeles County. Maybe each school reached their student capacity.

Jack, there has been a demand for Public Administration programs in California in recent years. The CSU system has probably produced the largest number of M.P.A. graduates in the state.

Just a few additional thoughts: All M.P.A. programs are not, in my opinion, created equal. Some schools offer the degree out of their Political Science department, while others offer it out of their school of business. CSU Hayward offers the program out of the Department of Public Administration. You will find that each of these schools have a somewhat different ontological approach.

With regards to CSU Dominguez-Hills, they are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA). CSU Northridge is not accredited by this body. Here is a link you can use to see which schools are so accredited:

Very useful link, thanks. I find it interesting that Harvard University's Kennedy School M.P.A. is not NASPAA accredited, but is one of the most prestigious in the country.

I guess it's all in the name, Bruce. When all is said and done, my NASPAA and regionally accredited Cal State M.P.A. will never carry the same weight as another's Harvard non-NASPAA M.P.A.

Thanks for the information. The piece about the NASPAA was interesting and helpful.
