    Hi Everyone!

I am looking for advice how I can guide my nephew to start online college degree. He was immigrated into the United States at 18 years old, and he continued 2 years of high school in the United States. He is still missing lot of credits to graduate at least for another year of high school. Now, his family is moving to different state. I contacted the local school over there, the admission counselor stated that he cannot continue his high school at public school as he passed over 18.

I plan to seeking online high school for him, or University of Texas at Austin High School. I also persuade him to start the Microsoft Data Science Program while taking courses at StraighterLine, CLEP, and DANTE Exams.

My question can he admit to online degree with 30 college credits or more from non-traditional source without high school diploma? I plan for to land in the profession of Data Science, get an online Bachelor degree and complete a Master degree that. What I see that High School diploma does not really serve any employment purpose after earning 2 college degrees.

    Thanks in advance.

If your nephew is capable of taking college courses then he is also capable of taking a GED exam. Pass the exam and move past high school into that big beautiful collegiate whatever.

    1. Try the GED and problem solved.

    2. Without knowing the admission requirements of UT Austin or any other specific school, I think he could get into a degree program by transferring 30 college credits in. I think that's what you said he had. The few schools that I'm aware of don't require high school transcripts if you're transferring in that many credits. Again, I don't know about the specifics of the school you are looking at.

Thanks everyone for the response. I am planning him to attend Western Governors University's Bachelor of Science in Data Management/Data Analytics. I am ensuring he could gain certifications and experience once he graduates from the program.

Instead spending another year in High School, I have him taking StraighterLine, Saylor Foundation, and CLEP exams for one year that could save him almost 2 years at Western Governors University's program. During this year he is also working on his Microsoft Professional Program on Data Science. I also hire him as an intern working on data mining for my company. This way he could gain experiences.

After one year at Western Governors University, he could find an Junior Data Analytic job to start his career. Once he graduates from Western Governors University, he will continue for his Master degree in Data Science at one of well known school.

In case he does not get accept after earning more than 30 college credits, my plan for him to take the GED exam.

What do you think about my direction? Thanks

i think you should consider his own commitments to studying online. there's different methods as we all know. independent term study, term base, or 6 months buffet like WGU, NAU, etc. or testing everything/almost everything out.

which would work better for him? maybe you should find that out first. it's easy to say enroll him in WGU and he could just push through everything.

but what if his more suited to a term base class that needs some interaction with the lecturers on a weekly basis?

i dunno, i'm just thinking aloud.

my wife tried doing some IS classes via UND. they gave her 12 months to finish 1 mod, but she found it hard to commit because there was no real 'date line' to get things done. she rather have term base classes, with weekly interaction to get work done.
