I work as a secondary teacher. I have a History endorsement, so I can teach History, but am having trouble finding work, as I only taught other subjects, and History is competitive. I have a Master's degree in teaching, but no degree in History, so when I apply, people do not think I am a strong candidate. So, I need to get some kind of certificate or diploma to make my application stand out. I am looking for either an undergraduate certificate, second BA completion program, or a graduate certificate program. I have New Mexico residency. The cheapest program I can find is WNMU's Graduate Certificate in History, costing about $5300, which is well outside my $2000 budget. Would an AA in History help me to stand out? Or would it look odd after having already finished a Master's degree? Does anyone know of a very affordable program?
Won't that be closer to $7000 for an 18-credit certificate? Are there any NA schools with really low tuition? I recall finding a school in California that offered various certificates for teachers, more like CEUs than real credits, but cannot recall the name. I think it started with De-.
I'm guessing that you're not going to find a US credential for $2K. After all, most grad courses cost 1K+ just for 3 credits.
You might want to take a look at this outfit. About 6 of their 140 courses are history. 3 credits - $449. Not for credit - $349. Here's a sample: https://www.advancementcourses.com/courses/read-between-the-lines-developing-a-critical-historical-perspective/ They have University Partners and offer certs. I think you could bag a history certificate here for $2K or so. See site for details. Checked all (NA) DEAC schools in California. Found none starting De-. Here's the list. Hopefully it might jog your memory. Is this what you're looking for? Graduate Certificate - Content Area Instruction Online Certificate | ACE.edu
Sure. About 100 history MOOCs here: https://www.mooc-list.com/tags/history And something like 132 free or low-cost ones here: https://www.class-central.com/subject/history They say 78 of them can count towards a certificate, so... J.
It might suit the OP very well, but cost is $4,230. He said he wanted something for $2K. My personal take: sometimes, you have to bite the bullet. An extra $2K isn't a lot, if you consider it will enhance your career more than something cheaper. If the credential works for you, it shouldn't take long to earn the whole $4K back. J.
UNISA has a History department that offers both undergrad certs and grad diplomas. You won't find anything cheaper. Qualifications
I searched both the qualifications section and the history department's page at UNISA. No mention could I find of any history certificates or grad diplomas. Kizmet - could you point me to them? J.
Hi! I'm new to Degree Info but a long time visitor. That said, I have some information that might be of interest and hasn't been mentioned. The University of San Diego has a Professional and Continuing Education extension program that offers inexpensive graduate-level, professional development courses for educators and other professionals. They have courses offered through their History Spotlight series for graduate credit. They also have a Quest Knowledge certificate with a focus on History that might fit your needs. Currently I'm taking a Greek Mythology course, which would satisfy one of the electives for the Love of Language graduate certificate if I decide to pursue it. I've take two other courses through University of San Diego though their independent study and online programs. I've enjoyed both courses. Anyway, to get to the point, the cost per credit for some of their graduate credit certificates is relatively inexpensive. I wouldn't say that they are the cheapest out there, but they do have a good deal going for those who might need it. At the present time, they are offering a discount of 12% on their courses through their professional and Continuing Education office. Some Graduate level, professional development courses cost about $129 per credit; however, today and today only, they are offering 12% off the regular price. It's a good deal if they have what you're looking for as an educator and are not concerned about the credits transferring into a regular Masters degree program. They don't guarantee that their graduate extension credits will transfer, but it's possible to obtain graduate certificate with nine credits for under $2,000. I know an educator can earn the Love of Language certificate for a lot less than $2,000. It's probably the same for the Quest of Knowledge certificate or the History Spotlight grad courses. If anyone's interested, their website is the following: http://PCE.San Diego.edu. Check under Educator Programs or your area of professional interest for extension course offerings. Also, if you see a course that appeals to you, use the promo code EDU-12 at checkout to get your 12% discount. The promo code only works until midnight 12:00 PM (PST). Sorry for the long winded post. I'm not an employee of the University of San Diego. I'm just excited to start my new course and enjoyed the other two through University of San Diego Professional and Continuing Education extension. Anyway...I do think that it's possible for you to obtain that certificate for under $2,000. If University of San Diego doesn't work, you're bound to find the answer to your dilemma somewhere on Degree Info. Best wishes and good luck!
