I probably won't put out money for the program, but will definitely sign up for the MOOC. Definitely looks like an interesting program

Isn't that we have been using digital currency for century? I make almost $200,000.00 per year. But I think I have seen less than $1,000.00 cash for entire year.

They're specifically referring to cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum that use a blockchain rather than a centralized database. There's a strong, growing financial technology ecology that's been building up around the stuff for a few years now.

This is one of those situations where I feel the degree is over-specialized.

You better be pretty committed to digital currency if this is your chosen degree path. The same, I would think, could be accomplished with a certificate in digital currency complementing an MBA or an M.S. in Finance.

There is a principal in fiction writing called "show but don't tell." The idea is to clearly create an image in the mind of the reader without explicitly mentioning every little detail.

In hiring, I have found that the resumes that have the greatest impact on the hearts and minds of hiring managers are the ones where the manager is required to connect a few dots rather than situations where specialized degrees try to tell the hiring manager what to think and believe.

In those situations an MBA/MSCS (or MSIT) (or a BSBA/MSCS or a BSCS/MBA) can have a more desirable outcome than an M.S. in BIS or similar. Education is important. But experience and skills tends to be equally, if not more, important.

You have to color in all of the bubbles or else you only get credit for spelling your name correctly.

Nothing personal, of course, but I've encountered plenty of managers who don't like that at all. Maybe time for a MOOC on dot-connection.

Maybe, maybe not. Given how quickly the word "blockchain" gets VCs to drop their shorts, specializing to this extent in it might well be worthwhile even if it only leads to a single magnificent opportunity. But it probably isn't that time-bound, as people have been calling this stuff a "fad" for seven years now.

Isn't that what they called personal computers, the Internet, Rock 'n Roll? Even, IIRC, the automobile, though my recollections of cars like Reo and Maxwell etc. are pretty dim, nowadays.

"Happy death of Rock 'n Roll" -from a 1956 poem, a forecast on the coming year. I remember it. I was 13.

Yeah, that's why I think it makes sense to give the MOOC a try. They even have a block chain to document successful completion of the MOOC! :)

Yeah, this could be a pretty big development as time goes on, although there are definitely some scaling issues that will need to be addressed sooner rather than later to ensure the long-term viable of BTC as a legitimate means of transaction (I hesitate in calling it a legitimate currency at this point).

Then allow me to over-specialize things even further. I was wondering if there was anything out there on Islamic Digital currency use. Lots! Interesting article on Islamic use here: https://www.coingecko.com/buzz/bitcoin-islam-islamic-banking-finance
