I need to talk to a UNIZUL graduate!

I am a public school teacher with a teaching certificate in "Biblical History" (on which I am paid on the Master's Degree Level -- Class AA). I am in negotiations with our State Dept. of Education concerning earning a D.Phil in Biblical Studies through SATS / UNIZUL -- with the view of being paid at the doctoral level (Class AAAA). :)

Ah, but here is the catch... :(

The State will not assure me that my degree will suffice for a Class AAAA license until my degree has been evaluated by World Evaluations Services (www.wes.org).

And WES will not evaluate my degree until I have finished it....

So, this means that if I proceed, I will have to do all the work for a D.Phil without any assurance that it will meet my needs.

So... I am thinking that if I found another person who had a D.Phil from UNIZUL (in Biblical Studies) and I paid to have WES evaluate it, and they said it was the equivalent to a US Ph.D. in Biblical Studies, this might let the licensing dept. give me a letter that I could use in the end to show that they had OK'd my plan.

    Does that make any sense?

Do any of you out there in Degree Land have such a degree that you would let me pay to get evaluated? Or do you KNOW such a person?

Or... do you have any other ideas??

Thanks so much for your kind help!

Welcome to the forum, Mr. Lipton.

Could you tell us where Degree Land is located? ;)

    Good morning, Russell!

I am shocked, SHOCKED, that a man of your standing does not know where Degree Land is!

Surely you have heard Little Orphan Annie talk to the listeners in "Radio Land", and the lady on RomperRoom speak to the children in "Television Land" !? Degree Land borders both of those countries! :)

(Note: "Television Land" is nowhere near "TV Land" -- which is a network, and not a continent at all. But let us not begin the Television Land / TV Land discussion again, because, as we know, that thing has been re-run to death.... ) :D

    cordial regards,

    To Mr. Bill Grover

    Good morning, Bill!

I've been in almost daily correspondence with "Saint Reuben of SATS" and he is not aware of a D.Phil Biblical Studies grad since he has been on board. He has directed me to ask the admin at UNIZUL, but they are on "winter break" until July 22nd. I was just trying to speed up the process a little, or perhaps find someone in the US who already had the UNIZUL degree (because this would speed up the evaluation process if we don't have to ship the paperwork overseas.)

You are so correct in your assessments of Reuben. When I am finished with my degree I intend to write a letter to John Paul II and ask him to make Reuben a candidate for beatification!
Seriously, he is such a helpful, helpful person, and sends good replies so quickly. That is one of the reasons that I am considering SATS / UNIZUL over, say, UNISA.

So, Mr. Grover, if you hear of anybody who has the forementioned degree, please send them my way!

And, if we should graduate at the same time, maybe you and I can walk together at the Zululand graduation. (You will recognize me by the cap and gown made out of mosquito netting -- I read on the internet that they are quite bad there....)

    :)

your friend, and future classmate, I hope,

Lipton at www.uzulu.ac.za/the/postgrad.htm you can view the titles of 2001 theses in Religion. Perhaps one of these students would share?

I'm a little puzzled at what you might provide the evaluator with as in many cases the degree is thesis only.

    Where do you teach?

    Bill,

I didn't see your name in the list of doctoral students. Are you sure that you have one chapter down and nine to go? :D

    Dear Bro Russell

Shame on your pessimism and on your research prowess too!:D As that list plainly says, those are the 2001 candidates, I on the other hand began in May, 2002:rolleyes:

    Research Skills

    Hello Bill:

Forgive my poor research skills, I took my research courses at Trinity. :D I was only kidding about your name, that list has been on the web for some months now. But just imagine, this time next year your name should be there too.

I hope you understand that my banter with you is all in jest. I commend you for your academic pursuits as you approach retirement. Many people would just sit in the lazy boy and watch TV into oblivion, so you (and those like you) are an inspiration to others to continue the learning process.

    Have a blessed weekend!

    Russell

I know your're just funnin me.

Actually I pursue my academic aspirations partly to avoid two lazy boys. One is 25 and the other is 27. Both live at home and I must both feed them and from time to time "sit" on them too.

    Thanks for talking with me;)
