Arizona State University offers many online courses and online degree programs. The online courses are accelerated; they are half as long as a semester. If you have taken any online courses from Arizona State University, what is your opinion of them? Do the accelerated classes make you feel rushed or always cramming?

I've never enrolled in this so I don't know what it's like to take ASU classes.

But Arizona State University probably deserves more attention from Degreeinfo than it gets. They are a flagship state research university that offers an impressive collection of undergraduate degree programs -

    And masters degree programs -

I even saw two doctoral programs in there, a Doctor of Behavioral Health and an Ed.D.

ASU-online looks like the offerings typical of a masters-level state university moved entirely online.

The big down-side as far as I'm concerned is the price, which is certainly more than I can afford -

Regarded the bolded portion, I have not taken any courses at ASU, but I have taken some accelerated courses in an online format before. To someone who is used to 15 to 16-week courses these can feel a little rushed, but nowadays, many online courses run 8-10 weeks (which is about as long as these accelerated courses would likely last) so this pace is almost becoming a "norm". I think there is less "fluff" each week and although you have assignments most weeks (plus discussions), the ability to knock out courses twice as fast more than makes up for it.

I did my MBA at Corban University where each class was 5 weeks and I'm now at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where each class is 8 weeks. For me, it's not about how long the class is, but what happens during that time.

For example, the first class I took at Illinois, HRD 400, the 8 weeks went by insanely fast because of multiple discussion board posts due each week, a two hour live chat, a weekly article summary, along with bigger class assignments that were due. It was tough to stay caught up. On the other hand, I took another class, HRD 532, that didn't have any discussion board requirements. Instead, we had two major class projects along with the usual two hour chat so it was much more manageable.

One thing I will say about accelerated classes, though, is that doing group work can be incredibly challenging. For one class in particular, we all met on Sunday evening to talk through what was due on upcoming Tuesday (and most of us generally didn't contribute much prior to that) so it was a weekly scramble to do everything in two days.

I completed my BA with ASU (online program). This was back in 2006 and so it was in the early days of the program. However, the structure hasn't changed much as far as I know. I liked the format, courses were high quality but without the fluff. All courses were taught by the full-time faculty. We also has a week's break between courses which was nice. It didn't feel rushed to me.
