    Hello Everyone,

I finally took the plunge and signed up. I have been a lurker for some years. I have been doing well so far at my current school until the dreaded Math class. It is Statistics 213 and I can't get away from it at my current school. I am currently attending ENMU (Eastern New Mexico University) and I am currently a Junior. I hold a 3.21 GPA and I have completed all of my General Ed classes except Statistics 213,which I am having a hard time passing. I wish there was a way I could get my Bachelors degree without Statistics. At this point, I could go with any degree because I already have a job. I was considering the BIG 3 schools. I also don't mind schools with no exams but mostly writing. I enjoy writing and I have no problem taking exams. I have put the classes I have done below.

    Current GPA: 3.21
    Major: Communication Disorders-Speech Pathologist
    Minor: Health and Human Services

    ANTH 103 P Humans & Their Environments

Classes that I will be taking in January 2017:

    CDIS 303 P Language Science 3 Credits
SOC 215 U Marriage and Family 3 Credits
    SWK 447 P Impact of Child Abuse/Neglect 3 Credits

My degree requires total of 120 Credits. I have 20 free electives left that I am approved to take any classes offered by the University.

    SWK 447 P
    CDIS 455 P
    CDIS 400 P

I disagree with those telling you to change schools. Here's why:

See every class with "CDIS" prefix? Those default into electives at the big three. You won't have the option of continuing on with communication disorders at any of those schools, so - gen eds would NOT be done. In fact, even if you could cobble them into one of the humanities, you'd have to give up the possibility of working in speech therapy since none of the big three hold CAA Accreditation. http://caa.asha.org/wp-content/uploads/CAA-Accredited-Programs.pdf
So, as a practical matter, this isn't the case of just changing schools- in your case, you'd have to change CAREER PATHS. That's a huge deal. You're being told by members here to throw away a difficult degree to get and go for liberal arts? Do you want fries with that?

Next, here's the part where I go all mom. ;) Life throws curve balls at you, and college is just a matter of being willing to jump through all the hoops. People (half) drop out of college ALL THE TIME. Literally, half of middle aged adults don't have a degree - most have college credit. Why? Well, there are a lot of answers, but in my opinion, they hit speed bumps like statistics. So, rather than quitting this program, let's figure out how to solve this difficulty in front of you so you can crush it.

First question- have you failed the stats class giving you trouble?

Help me find why stats 213 class is required. I don't see it as a gen ed or as a requirement for your major. I'm seeing it as a suggested elective??

Oh! I found it! It's in your MINOR!

Ok, this is an easy fix. You need to change your minor. I realize that they "suggest" this minor as a "preparation for grad school" but you're not even going to get out of undergrad if you don't find a way through this obstacle course. Change your minor. ASAP. Before spring start. Pick something else without stats213 and go get this degree!

"4. Minor in a different field or a second major.
Note: This major requires a minor or a second major. Students
seeking a first baccalaureate degree must complete a minor. It is
strongly recommended that CDIS majors select the health and
human services (HHS) minor. The HHS minor is designed to
prepare students for graduate school, specifically in the areas of
    research and clinical practice. "

    Last post lol-

So, you'll go to your advisor. You'll need to be assertive, because advisors like to advise. You'll have to press for "meeting college requirements" not what this advisor thinks is in your best interest. You can figure that out later. You need a new minor. Here are some minors at your college that don't require stats and feel like they might fit in with your learning style of writing instead of numbers. (note: I have no idea about the details of what is/isn't allowed regarding declaring minors - this is just to help you see other options that you can *with the help of YOUR advisor* choose something that will help you get on moving forward. Some of these may not even be allowed, I have no idea)

    Page 39 college catalog
"Declaration of a Major or Change
    of Major/Minor/Emphasis
Declaring a major allows for careful planning with an academic
advisor in the major field for meeting the requirements of that major.
A student declares a major by completing a Declaration of Major form
available online at enmu.edu/declare and will use a CAPP degree
evaluation for the tentative degree plan.
A student may declare or change a major, minor, emphasis and/
or endorsement area at any time by completing a Declaration of
Major form available online at enmu.edu/declare. Students may
move to the current catalog when changing majors"

Maybe consider any of these- NONE have stats listed. I checked EVERY one. Again, ask not what is suggested, ask what is allowed. IMO a resourceful person could argue ANY of these integrates with speech therapy in a forward-thinking practice.

    Hey Mom,

It seems like when I change my minor or my major it still shows up as a requirement. It looks like there is no getting away from the Stats class. At this point, even if I don't get to be a speech therapist, I am fine with that. I already have been in business for about 8 years. My job is only requiring a degree to continue to keep my job. It doesn't require a degree as a Speech therapist. In fact,I got talked into getting this degree because they said it wouldn't be that hard.

I also want to thank you for your help so far, anything suggestions?
