As with Liverpool, it looks as if Trinity has told a good story. The stuff that has appeared about Liverpool being not really suitable for Trinity because Liverpool does not have a Theology department comes rather late in the day. Liverpool does, in fact, award degrees in Theology, but these are to graduates from one of their accredited UK colleges (Chester College and Liverpool Hope College). In these cases the students study at and are examined at the College but receive a Liverpool University degree (unlike the arrangement with Trinity).

The arrangement with Christ Church College seems no different from that with Liverpool. The only mention of it on their website in in the news release I indicated in an earlier post. It appears just as meaningless as the Liverpool arrangement. I do not know what the attitude of the Religious Studies department is to the arrangement. I no longer have an inside contact at Christ Church to get the real story.

Not clear....but it may be different!

I've not made any enquiries in the Uk but it may well be that Christ Church is actually going to 'validate' Trinity degrees. In other words, Trinity organizes its own programmes and examinations/assessments and successful students get a degree from Christ Church. Many UK universities do this. Malcolm Jenner has pointed out, for example, that liverpool University 'validates' a number of degree programmes offered by local 'affiliated' colleges, just as, for another example, the College of York St John is a constituent college of the University of Leeds. St John runs and organizes its own programmes but the degree is awarded by Leeds University. Like many other institutions, York St John may well go for degree-awarding powers in its own right. Personally, I am against this UK trend. A small institution like Christ Church or St John does far better being associated with an international and well-known university in my view. There is a great deal of evidence emerging to support this stance.

Wow, Bill. To have such high regard for one's alma mater is encouraging. ;)

I did learn some from the effort I put into the (almost) three

classes I completed "at" Trinity. As said, I do not deny the substance of the work but its utility.Coincidentally I learned about accreditation from this forum (another alma mater!)eventually to the point that this latter experience convinced me that the $3000 I spent at Trinity could have been better applied elsewhere! I'll take that loss on the chin as it was my own fault that I did not then grasp accreditation. But if I can do anything to make sure that good folks considering Trinity approach this relationship with a factual understanding of degree utility, then I will do it. Were Trinity's primary goal to serve the flock rather than fleece it then don't you suppose it could avoid the confusion it creates re accreditation?

To expect individuals to adhere to a code of ethics in their lives but not to require a school which attempts to teach morality and religion to avoid misrepresentation in its advertising appears to me to be applying an uneveness not easily justified!:) I know this is not your position,

    Trinity

    Bill,

My purpose is not to defend/justify/promote Trinity. I do feel that they require a substantial amount of work--at least from the syllabi I have seen. That being said, this issue of accreditation is a most confusing one.

Are you saying that after earning several degrees from RA schools, you did not understand accreditation?

    Russell:

I have just said that trinity requires work. I'll repeat it: Trinity requires work!

As to accreditation being confusing, I'm not sure whether you in your statement mean that (1)trinity makes it confusing or whether you rather are(2) deeming the issue in general to be so.

Were it (2) I hope my genuine ignorance re accreditation when I choose trinity could then also be understandable. That is why I blame myself as well, and take it on the chin.. I lost my $3000 because I was ignorant, I on THAT DAY may have to give account for that mistake, or perhaps Trinity will? Oh well, in my retired stage now ,in a mere three monthly checks Social Security will send me that much! In some ways I'm not too bright, and also am gullible, I guess. I also buy vacuum cleaners that companies claim are great, but they breakdown! I even still think that the yummy looking pictures on the packages of TV dinners really represent the contents of the package. But those companies do not claim religiousmotivation and purpose! I did not when enrolling in Trinity comprehend TRACS or GAAP or RA, sorry. But I had heard of accreditation, and THIS is what Trinity on its package claimed to have! I believed that claim! Sorry! Since Trinity chooses to be confusing and confused me, i like to clarify the issue according to the insight gained from this forum! Don't you think it should be thus clarified? Yet the many discussions on this forum re this exact issue evinces its, to some, complexity.

Were your meaning (1) I say,the Christian seller of wares who claims to do business according to virtues required in the NT should take pains to not misrepresent his product! Don't you concur? It is Trinity's responsibilty, I claim, to avoid confusion. I think Trinity causes confusion! This is my entire point! Do you disagree? I would really take it as a personal favor if you would explain your own opinion on the Trinity ETHIC . If you agree with me, why not just say with me, "Trinity needs to stop saying openly and loudly that Liverpool or Christchurch ACCREDITS them. They should rather state and explain that actually this accreditation is NOT REALLY accreditation at all as generally understood and that therefore the degree lacks utility in many contexts and has no respect in many quarters!"

The fact that Trinity "requires work" ,while commendable ,does not in my view relinquish them from the obligation to as well be candid and clear re their lack of accreditation . They should be honest too, then all my ire will be pacified!

    thanks Bill

That really helped to expain things. Thanks Bill!
I think accreditation is sometimes made confusing by organizations which are sort of on the bubble.
    All the best!

TRINITY NEEDS TO STOP SAYING OPENLY AND LOUDLY THAT LIVERPOOL OR CHRISTCHURCH ACCREDITS THEM!
