I need to earn my masters degree asap, and found Capella University and their competency based degrees to be perfect for me. The fact that you can take as many courses per quarter as you can handle is perfect for me. The problem is, I looked online and found more bad reviews about this school than hairs on my head, and I have a lot of hair! Basically, reviewers posted that this is a for-profit school that only cares about money, and won't confer the degree you've earned. Does anyone have experience, good or bad, with this program they can share? Also, are there any other legitimate schools that do offer such competency based programs, where you can proceed as quickly as you wish? Many thanks in advance!

Capella is a good accredited school. Also, I would take the bad reviews from people who have washed out of Capella with a grain of salt.

I generally don't put much stock in reviews, but there were so many of them, and they all seemed to say very similar things about how the school was only interested in their money, and delaying their degree.

Once upon a time there were so few online/DL programs around that someone might feel the need to compromise just because of a lack of alternatives. Now however there are so many programs available that those sorts of critical compromises are no longer necessary. The work itself is hard enough as it is and so you don't want nagging doubts hanging over your head like Damocles' sword. You want to feel good about your school and your program.

I don't know if the complaints are valid but I do know that you don't want to go into such an endeavor, with all the time, effort and money involved, with worries about your school. Do what you need to do to satisfy yourself and if that's not possible then walk away.
