    Same ownership as Heritage...

    Missouri College Closure Announcement

It is with great disappointment that we announce that Missouri College must permanently close effective immediately. Missouri College was purchased just over a year ago by Weston Educational Inc. and today Weston informed the College’s administration that due to a financial shortfall, the company could no longer continue operations at any of the 10 campuses it owns, including Missouri College. The parent company has required us to close.

Missouri College did not close due to wrongdoing by its campus administrators nor was there a forced closure by a regulatory body. It is unfortunate that Weston’s overall financial situation at its other campuses has brought about the closure of our College. Over the past week, in order to help our students, Missouri College administrators made countless attempts to find other options including change of ownership away from Weston and transfer of accreditation. Unfortunately, the options were not viable within the timeline available.

This is very difficult news and we are devastated by the effects this will have on our students, teachers, and staff. Missouri College educated students for the past 53 years and delivered some of the brightest healthcare and dental professionals in the area. We can’t thank the community enough for the support they have given to help educate our students through the years and for the high regards they placed on our graduates.

No one is more greatly affected than our current students. In the coming weeks, although no longer operating, Missouri College will do everything possible behind the scene to help our students find pathways to transfer into other local institutions and complete their studies. This will be done in several ways; we will be providing to all students both a sealed official transcript and an unofficial transcript to help with possible transfer options. Students will receive this via mail within the next few days. Separate communication will be sent directly to students with more detailed information on options to continue their training and available funding.

For additional contact information for questions and concerns should be directed to Weston Educational at [email protected]

We thank our community, faculty, staff, and especially, our students, who bravely pursued new career paths and allowed us to be a part of that endeavor.

Training For Careers In Healthcare | Heritage College

    Heritage College and Heritage Institute
    Permanently Closing November 1, 2016
It is with great disappointment that we announce that Heritage College and Heritage Institute are permanently closing on November 1, 2016. The closure will affect all 10 campuses.
Heritage College educated students for health care careers for 30 years, and this is very difficult news for everyone affected particularly our students, teachers, and staff.
The reason for the campus closures is that Heritage does not have the cash to continue to run its business. Numerous factors contributed to the circumstances including declining student population and a continued, decreased demand for the services of for-profit schools. Heritage did not close due to wrongdoing or a forced closure by a regulatory body, and we did explore a range of options that would have enabled the campuses to remain open serving students. Unfortunately, the options were not viable and our efforts proved unsuccessful.
We thank our faculty, staff and, mostly, our students. They had the courage to pursue a new career path and we were honored to help them achieve their goals.

    Fascinating...

This is an appropriate series of events. If the market does not dictate that a demand exists for a particular institution in a particular area or one that does not provide a niche or service that is in demand, then the institution SHOULD shut down. I'm not advocating for universities to adapt pure business models, but if they aren't providing students with the outcomes that they promise or that students expect, I don't see the problem with these results.

Is there any connection between these two companies?

    (1) Weston Educational Inc., Denver CO - owners of (now closed) Heritage College and Missouri College
    (2) Weston Distance Learning, Ft. Collins CO - owners of (still operating) McKinley College and U.S. Career Institute?

I hear you, Tom. Sounds logical to me, but if I'd paid them $15 K and been suddenly abandoned... well, I'm not so sure.

I hope this is isolated to ACICS. I need a particular for profit that's RA to stick around til I finish. I would like to have to worry about something like this till after I'm becoming alumni.

ACICS doesn't have an absolute monopoly on this. Maybe close, though. Horizons College, which folded about the same time, had different accreditation.

Don't think you have to worry about an RA school. It could conceivably happen, but If financial condition there deteriorated badly, the school would likely be put on probation etc. and you'd have plenty of warning. Hopefully, possibility of a teach-out. Probably won't come to that...

Don't be too sure. I used to work for Southeastern University in Washington, D.C., and their president, a former city politician, ran it into the ground pretty quickly.

I've answered my own question. Yes, Johann, the two companies are related - both part of Weston Education Group. From their Linked-in page:

"With 35 years of experience in the post-secondary education space, Weston Education Group serves 25,000 students with a team of 700 associates across several educational institutions. Among our institutions are Heritage College, Heritage Institute, Missouri College, Weston Distance Learning, U.S. Career Institute, McKinley College, At-Home Professions and Beacon Hill Career High School." (Emphasis mine - J.)

    Hmmm. Will another shoe drop?
