KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Imagine forking out $15,000 for college, being two weeks away from graduation and then learning the college has shut down. It happened on Tuesday afternoon to more than 100 students across the metro. Heritage College announced the closing of its campus.

“We have nothing to show, we are getting nothing back from them so we are paying $15,000 for nothing,” said Kaitlyn Bell, a medical assistant student.

Bell said she was studying for her final that she was supposed to take on November 16th.

“I spent nine-and-a-half months of my life there every single day to get a better education, and it has went down the hole,” she said.

Bell has been commuting to the college’s Kansas City, Mo., campus every day from Harrisonville. She said she has to start paying her student loans back in six months.

Alexis Fox, another medical assistant student, said when she heard the news she sat in her car and cried.

Heritage cites "...a continued, decreased demand for the services of for-profit schools" among its woes. No wonder, if such schools are going to simply abandon students -- after they've paid $15,000!

If accredited wouldn't they have credits to transfer to another school?

The school was accredited by Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) which is USDoE recognized as a career-school accreditor. I think we're talking vocational - non-degree programs here, so an incomplete program could present different problems.

Oops - wrong again. Further reading: I believe ABHES can and does accredit some schools with degree programs - but I don't believe those Heritage College students named were in degree programs - so I'll stick with what I said about vocational programs, above.

Hmm - been looking for a good course in Toppenish for a while - is it like Amish? Or maybe Yiddish? Oy, Gevalt!

Even their press release is a lie as many students did NOT achieve any goals.

"We thank our faculty, staff and, mostly, our students. They had the courage to pursue a new career path and we were honored to help them achieve their goals."
