    Hi,
I am new to this discussion.
I am in search of a good at least DETC accredited MBA school. I do not want to spend more than $7000.00 Can anybody of you suggest me some schools??

    Thanks,
    Manju

Try Andrew Jackson University or Columbia Southern University. They have both overcome questionable pasts and have seemingly gain new respect.

They are both reasonably priced and if your not looking to a future in academics DETC accreditation should not be a problem.

Check Jonnie's Distance Learning Page for a seemingly complete list of R/A, DETC, and foreign schools.

The MBA de from the University of Southern Queensland in Australia will cost you $6000, I feel is a better option than a DETC one

Having been a student on a budget for my MBA, I understand your concerns. However, you may want to look at what you plan on doing with your MBA - and if your plans fit your $7000 choices.

As Dennis points out both of these schools have questionable pasts. I would look for better choices if it were me.

    Low Cost MBA

Have a look at Amberton University. Its regionally accredited & tuition is very reasonable.

    Good luck!

Having done intense research for RA MBA programs, I chose
Amberton. Total cost without books is $5, 940.00 (provided you do not need any program prerequisite courses, which could be another 12 credits).

    Check out their website
    http://www.amberton.edu/

    Good Luck

How about Columbia Southern University? Does anybody on this forum enrolled there or know anybody studying there?

You might want to check out SUNY Utica-Rome's online MBA program. Tuition costs for courses at SUNY schools are relatively inexpensive, especially for New York State residents.

I found columbia southern attractive in terms of cost and recognition as i am not a resident of NY for sunyit.edu and Amberton requires me to take addditional 12 credits (in that case it will go beyond $10K which is too much for me). Is DETC sufficient if I am not applying for federal jobs or planning to go with a PHD? Any comments??
Right now i am working in technical field(systems engineer) in a reputed company.

If you have to take the additional 12 credits at Amberton that would bring you to 48 credits @ $165.00 or $7,920.00.

What is your undergraduate degree in? The additional courses are mainly for individuals without a Business Degree.

Do you get any tuition reimbursement from your company?

Actually, DETC is very sufficient for federal jobs but may be less (how much is the question) sufficient in the private sector.

An admitted RA snob here: I cannot imagine allowing a couple of thousands dollars to stand between a Regionally Accredited and a DETC degree. Go for the RA MBA - you will never have to look back to see who is gaining on you. Good Luck.

OK - It's not a MBA but it works well and it's RA

Look at the College of Financial Planning www.cfp.edu
It's cost is around 6K total, and it's a Masters of Science.

A geat deal that has full RA:p

If you are not stigmatized by State Licensed Schools you may wish to consider Kennedy-Western. They have an Executive MBA program for about that range.

By the way, although there are bigots against SL schools, the DoE states that they are equally as legal as RA schools, and much, much cheaper. K-W has a good reputation. Just my opinion.

There is a huge difference between legal and legitimate. In the case of RA vs. unaccredited, you certainly get what you pay for.

Time to stop all this ?

I've watched postings about RA and DETC now for some weeks. I am British but perfectly understand the way the US accreditation system works. I find it offensive that people 'knock' DETEC in that it is a 'recognized' Dept of Education accrediting agency and ceratinly serves the needs of many institutions. I find its accreditation criteria burdensome but then the same is true of the regional accrediting associations and the equivalent bodies in the UK. They are facilities and systems oriented rsather thasn learning outcomes focussed. However, my main point is that I really donlt think we have the right to 'rubbish' institutions and the people who graduate from them if they are DETEC accredited. It's rather likew comparing Oxford/Cambridge and Derny and Thames Valley universotoes int he UK> In the league tables the first two are at the top and the other two almost at the bottom but they each serve their students, generally speaking, very well. The two 'bottom' institutions are extremely good at what they do best - i.e. vocational type degree qualifications. Compared with Oxbridge, that is far less vocationally oriented, they are good. In terms of academic theory, etc and research int he traditional academic subjects they are not good! The reverse is true for Oxford and Cambridge. But I would not wish to 'rubbish' the graduates of Thames Valley or Derby (and similar institutions) for doing 'their best'. This is what people are doing when they 'rubbish' DETC.

I'm actually sceptical about DETC because it changes the rules, as far as I can see, to suit itself. I have yet to be persuaded by the fact that it cannot accredit US institutions offering doctoral degrees (other than the so-called terminal junior doctorate) and yet it may do so for non-US institutions. Does DETC have the formal authority to do this? Does it need the Dept of Education's permission to have two sets of accreditation criteria? I don't know!

We hold up 'accredited institutions' as if they are the be all and end all and represent 'standards'! I completely disagree! Some do and many don't but they simply 'play ther system' and remain accredited! At the end of the day it is the standards of work produced by students that matters! I have recently been inflicted by extremely poor standards from a re-accredited RA university whose required standards from students leaves much to be desired - but seemingly, this is adequate for the RA body!

We'll probably now go 'round the houses' with this debate! We need a new system that speaks firstly, to the needs of students and secondly to all the other stakeholders!

By the way, I've never heard of half of the new RA US institutions that keep cropping up here! They all seem to have inter-galactic sounding names or names linked with zodiac signs, casino boats and so on!

I believe the link is www.fp.edu. Anyway, although the school is an excellent choice for financial planning and analysis, the curriculum is a bit different than that of a typical MBA program. On the other hand, it IS a great deal and it IS a Master's program.

6K for a K-W MBA? you gotta be kidding. K-W has everything but good reputation, 6K is too much for a worthless degree. Much cheaper? Amber and USQ go for about the same price, Colorado State a bit higher and it is AACSB.
