Those crazy Finns. Imagine actually implementing research findings. Crazy. Finland schools use American education research, but American doesn't - Business Insider (bonus points for mentioning Philosopher John Dewey)
Ehkä älykkäät amerikkalaiset pitäisi oppia Suomi. (Perhaps smart Americans should learn from Finland.) J.
Except that the U.S. has more than 60 times the population of Finland. Hell, the number of people here illegally is some multiple of the population of Finland.
Smart Americans should learn wherever there is opportunity - and apply their new knowledge in suitable scale. The article mentions that Finland's population (5.6 million) could be considered equivalent to a U.S. State. Scale things accordingly. All we're really talking about here is Americans hopefully getting smart enough to heed their own research. The point of the article: Finns have been smart enough to look at US research ignored in its Homeland. "Hell, the number of people here illegally is some multiple of the population of Finland." - Who said that first? Decimon or Trump? J.
The US spends more per capita on health care than any oecd country. However there are 10 to 40 million people without health insurance, so it is not for lack of money. The US is the greatest country in the world but there are a few things that some other countries are good at like primary and secondary education.
Trump has nothing to do with this and my comment goes to the fact that the U.S. is a far more complex and far less homogeneous nation than is Finland.
As you say. Still no reason to ignore home-grown research. And - I wish you'd said it that way the first time around, instead of talking about "illegals." Well-said! J.
