OGS had its focus visit the end of last week so it will be interesting to see what happens. It was maybe a year ago that they had their first site visit for candidacy with TRACS and then an impending November announcement which never came.

Their D.Phil looked substantial and required on site time (Tennessee) along with a short residency in England. Cost was around 16,000.

I wish them luck. I personally am not a fan of their name as I would not want to have to keep explaining, yes I have a doctorate from Oxford BUT NOT THAT OXFORD. I think I would also be tempted to just use Ph.D.

    I agree...PhD

I agree with North. The use of the abbreviation DPhil for Doctor of Philosophy is 'to close to home'! People may well get confused and think the award is from the University of Oxford. In the past only a few institutions in the UK have used DPhil (Oxford, Sussex, York and Buckingham). The rest use the more usual PhD. Even York has now dropped DPhil and has gone on to use the abbreviation PhD instead of DPhil.

But wouldn't it be nice to be among that small but significant number of individuals who hold an American D.Phil.? :p
