Anyone know of really cheap online course in College Algebra and or Calc? I have checked Excelsior's database and some are good, however most are written courses rather than online. It doesn't have to be accredited or even from a college (I just want some sort of guided path of study so I can CLEP these to courses).

I have ran up on a website called:
    Universal Class

It seems like a neat idea (people sign up to teach a class of interest and they (the charge a small fee). Problem is the highest math class they have is Intermediate Algebra.

Anyone know of similar websites that does a similar service?

    Thanks in advance,

    Bill

    College Algebra

Inexpensive? No. Easy? Not for me!

I took the DL college algebra course offered by Columbia Union College. It is rather expensive and was also extremely difficult (for me), but I slid by with a B. The student has 365 days to complete the course. I did it in only 364 days. I'm serious.

math courses should be easy to find

Community College of Vt offers mathematics courses on line. They offered algebra with trig. this summer. They have offered calculus and others in the past.
Champlain College in Burlington VT has moved toward online courses. they are more expensive but have all the math courses through calculus.
You might check the New York State intercollege online data base. They usually have a ton of stuff.
    All the best!

Cochise College in Sierra Vista AZ has College Algebra tentatively scheduled for the Fall semester. I'm currently taking Intermediate Algebra online through them. It costs me $60 per credit for a three credit course and I live in Washington state. My class is 8 weeks but the Fall course is a typical 16 weeks. The courses are through Blackboard and it has been a good experience except for the fact that I hate Math. Another AZ school that offers College Algebra and Intro Calc is Rio Salado.

You might want to check on the Calc CLEP test. I know out here at McChord AFB the test is no longer offered and the Education Office says it's been "retired." I don't know if that means it'll be revised in the future or it no longer exists.

If you are just looking to test out and not take an actual class, you might try doing interactive lessons for both courses at the McGraw-Hill website. I placed at the Intermediate level using that site alone and I haven't taken Algebra for 20 years. They have in-depth interactive lessons for all kinds of subjects, including College Algebra and Calculus and it doesn't cost anything.

http://www.mhhe.com/catalogs/ and click on "online learning center" and then pick a subject.

    Good Luck!!

    Kevan,

Thank you for the mcgraw website:

    http://www.mhhe.com/math/precalc/barnettcat7/student_index.mhtml

This is one of the college algebra "primers" they have that compliment the books they sell I guess.

I forgot all about this website (I used it to CLEP out of intro to Pysch).

That community college in arizona is the CHEAPEST one I have seen so far (very good).

    Thanks for your help.

    BR,

    You found one

Hey good. I went back out to the site and couldn't find a College Algebra book that was interactive. Guess I didn't look hard enough. The site worked for me and I'll be using them again since I'm in the military and CLEP/DANTES tests are free to active duty.

    Irat,

Thanks alot! A little too much for tuition though (176 dollars per credit for regional student). I wish these school weren't so expensive up here in New England..

    Not guided, but...

Since you are looking to CLEP out of College Algebra, you may find that the Schaum's Outline for College Algebra to be a good resource. I understand that you are looking for something interactive/online, but if you are going to go through the trouble of taking a course on the subject why not let the course count for credit? The schaum's outlines are fairly well written, and my wife used them to teach herself algebra and trig, so it is certainly possible to use them to teach yourself College Algebra.

You would be looking at ~$90 total for the book and CLEP test.
