This forum has frequently discussed the D Litt et Phil degree granted by UNISA. I recently revisited UNISA's website, and it looks like UNISA has changed its nomenclature and is now granting PhDs (or possibly D Phils). See this link: Master's and doctoral qualifications Does anyone know anything about this? Just curious.
They've been doing this for several years. I think they finally figured out that D.Litt et Phil is an oddball degree title that few outside South Africa recognized, that just added to the suspicion of someone earning a degree from a different continent.
I think that, as Bruce said, this is a process that has been occurring for some time, not just at UNISA but across the country. I believe it's a standardization of the degree nomenclature by SAQA to promote consistency and equivalency between universities and between countries. http://www.unisa.ac.za/cgs/news/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/ANNEXURE-2-HEQSF.pdf
