Here are the listings of recent and upcoming WASC site visits for 2002. Most of them are routine periodic inspections of long established schools (UC Berkeley is on the list). But there are some new names here. CSUMB is a recognized candidate, and CSUCI is rolling out its first programs soon. But these new state universities are a sure bet for RA. Life Bible College and National Hispanic University are already recognized candidates. New names drawn from the CA-approved list include: 1. American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine - San Francisco. This is what its name suggests, and it already is accredited by Accrediting Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM), the DoEd/CHEA recognized accreditor for those things. It's a positive sign that they are interested in being RA too. 2. Hsi Lai University- Rosemead. This is a new Buddhist university associated with the Hsi Lai Temple. It offers masters and Ph.D. programs in religious studies, as well as business degrees. 3. Interamerican College - National City. Offers several bachelors programs and a masters in education. 4. Intercultural Institute of California - San Francisco. Besides Korean language and ESL classes, they offer an MA in Korean Studies. 5. Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences. This is the very well funded new partner in the Claremont consortium. It currently offers its first degree program through the Clarement Graduate University, and I'd call it a sure bet for accreditation. And lastly, a very distant learning option: the American University of Armenia in Yerevan. This is being set up by a bunch of Armenian-American donors with the assistance of the University of California. Scheduling a site visit doesn't guarantee that candidacy will be granted. WASC may just produce a list of deficiencies and say "keep trying". And obviously candidacy doesn't guarantee final accreditation. But it is a sign of seriousness. Hopefully one day we will see a school offering distance degrees getting WASC attention. http://www.wascweb.org/senior/visits0102.htm http://www.wascweb.org/senior/visits0203.htm
Thanks! Thank you for sharing this updated information, Bill. It would be great when WASC does in fact pay attention to a true DL institution.
Thanks for this, Bill. Now . . . how about North Central? Of particular relevance to this forum is when the North Central Association will next be visiting Northcentral University.
John, The word is that the next NCA site visit is scheduled sometime in October, 02. Northcentral U. administration believe that they have a good shot at obtaining regional accreditation status at that time. We'll see! Simon
How long does it take for a site visit to be scheduled for a school that has made application for accreditation? What is the residency requirement for WASC to consider accreditation? Any insight to the process is appreciated.
Up, Up & Away - NCU Tuition Any wagers as to what will happen with Northcentral's tuition soon after they receive accreditation? I say, watch out for a steep increase.
