When I was at Scranton my academic advisor called me in at least twice to urge me to declare a minor or a dual-major. Otherwise, she warned, "you'll graduate early." She said it with such dread that it was as if she feared for my immortal soul.

There were some majors that absolutely could not be finished any earlier than a semester shy of the 4 year mark. But there were others that meshed really well with an 18 credit/semester courseload and had significant intersession offerings. Psych and Philosophy were two such majors. They were such popular "add on" majors and minors that the offerings were plentiful. You could easily knock out 36 credits in two semesters plus another 18 over the intersessions (winter and summer break). I talked to others who, feeling that same dread, then added years to their college experience to avoid "having" to graduate early.
