There is a 1 credit class from Arapahoe community college on FCC Radiotelephone operation. I believe they are RA. Here is the link.

If you are going the portfolio route, it appears you might be able to prove your knowlege in other classes pertaining to this knowledge.

    Good luck,

Honolulu Community College has a 3 credit course for the GROL. From the web site:

CENT-263 FCC Exam Preparation: This course prepares the student to take Element I and Element 3 of the Federal Communications Commission "General Radiotelephone Operator's License" exam. Topics covered include analog and digital electronics and electronics communications.

If you have the license, it ought to be easy portfolio credit. At least, that's what I'm hoping! :D

Many schools will offer 1 to 3 credits lower level for the GROL.

Since the amateur exams (and their answers!) are now published in their entirety, few schools will recognize it for credit.

Older Amateur Extra tickets and Radiotelegraph/Radiotelephone licenses may be accepted by those schools who consider life/work experience, but because of the age of those credentials, they are seldom considered for credit of any kind. (Many schools place a ten-year limit on bacculaureate-level credits.)

    Good luck!

    Portfolio Credits

Hello, When I checked the portfolio course listing on the TESC website there were 24 offerings under radar. I have mixed feelings suggesting this knowing the current understaffed situation at TESC. Please let me know if you go this route. I am trying to make suggestions as an alumni of this college and need other peoples experiences to give me some additional insight. Thanks. Hille

I have taken this class from HCC. I payed very little for this course considering I had tuition assistance from the military so it wasn't a TOTAL loss for me. Personally, I think it was a waste of time if you are actually taking this to learn anything. Now it could be different for each instructor, but it was clearly a situation that if you paid for the class you WILL get that license. If you just want this for your resume.. then it is an excellent class.

As for credit towards a degree? 3 SH at HCC. I havn't found one school yet that will transfer this class (Excelsior wouldn't and I thought they would be easiest to transfer credits). Perhaps, because it is a prep class? Maybe while HCC sees it credits towards the CENT program, others school simply see it as continuing education credit?

Maybe your could portfolio a course that has to do w/ radios or radar or something and include your license.. I never really followed up on it because I never needed it (was an avionics tech in the military and thought I would probably get an avionics jobs outside..).

    Good luck!

    Bill,

Intersting that Excelsior wouldn't let you transfer the credit, but maybe you can still take the portfolio route.

From what I've read from TESC and COSC, it's my understanding that if a course is listed in an RA college catalog, it can be used as the basis for portfolio credit at either of these institutions. Even if it's a course in Levitation. :)

I've had the GROL license for years. I'm just looking to Levicoff some credit out of it.

(Is "Levicoff" a verb? I guess it is now :D)
