    People in this forum:
    Do you know the Canadian Policy of Recruitment people all over the world, to enforce its GNP? I'm Thai, 35, and interested in it; but had unfinished my Bachelor Degree of Economics since 1991. That's why I've come to discuss with you all.
    I think unfinishing degree can lower my opportunity to join in that policy, and the most important thing I had gotten my own career as a production manager of films since then til now, over 10 years.
    I have been looking around this forum for months to catch some idea of transferring credit; Excelsior, Tesc, Cosc. But I'd like to know are there same kind of univs in Canada. Or is there the easiest&fastest way to join that Canadian Policy by excluding my education background.
    Best regard;
    Man from Thailand.

    There are few places in Canada where you could study through Distance Learning (DL) and aquire your degree which would be recognized. A search on the interet under Canadian universities is also a good start.

    Here are a couple to begin with:

    Althabasca University (the university with the largest DL programme in Canada)Canadian Virtual University - Université virtuelle canadienne (which groups most of the DL programmes in Canada in one place and allows the student to choose areas of programmes and univeristies from all member institutions in either official language to build a degree programme you want.)

    Here is a quote from the CVU-UVC web site for you:

    The Canadian government has a policy of awarding points for all people coming to live perminently in Canada. Education is one of the criteria. However there are other ways to gain the points if there is no degree. Speaking one or both official languages gains quite a few points. You should check the Canadian government web siteGovernment of Canada under services for non-Canadians to learn more or a search of the alphabetical index and look for Immigration Canada which has host of services and the latest regulations for migrating to Canada. New immigration rules under the Immigration Act were just passed by Parliament this month so they should be on the site by now.

    I know almost nothing about Canadian immigration policy but I know bureaucrats.

    Selection is determined largely by how you complete your application. If you know all the criteria and tailor your answers to give them what they want to hear, all the better.

    Make sure you tell the truth because one lie will pretty much void your application. It's a frustrating system and can take years but about 200,000 people do enter annually.

    Gaining immigration status in Canada is no guarantee that you will enjoy any degree of success. Canada has an 8 % unemployment rate and you have to convince someone to give you a job. If your skills are in demand, it is a lot easier.

    Making contact with the Thai community in Canada would probably answer a lot of your questions. I am sure Toronto or Vanvouver would have such organizations.

    Remember that it is a selection process and some win and some lose.

    I would like to add to your comment that having a canadian degree (even if it is DL) would maximize your chances of finding employment in Canada, foreign degree from less developed countries are not well regarded unless you have good experience. Most of the degree holders from less developed nations don't work in their field. IT and business are perhaps good fields to get in to in Canada, unemployment is high compared to the US so don't expect jobs waiting for you here.

    Competition is tough at the immigration level, I would secure it with a job offer, language skilss (English and French) and graduate level education.
