Am I reading that right? $12,000 per undergraduate class? That can't be right, can it?

Ivy League schools aren't the best resource for cheap credits.

It appears so, and that's beyond absurd. If you just have to have an Ivy League school somewhere on your transcript, Harvard Summer School tuition is $3,050 for an undergrad class (4 credits) and Harvard Extension is $1,400 to $2,550 (3 or 4 credits).

I had a classmate at Quincy College who had to have the Ivy League notation, and I thought she was crazy for paying (at the time) about $800 for a course at Harvard Extension.

Penn's 1 credit unit is equivalent to 3 credit hours, so it's $4000 per class. They've used credit units since my undergraduate days

That is expensive if you go for Penn Summer, if you want cheap go with Penn Foster for $79.00 per credit. It is still Penn. :)

Thank you. That makes a lot more sense.

As an aside, despite the broad marketing via google, I have to imagine that this course isn't being directed toward credit collectors like many of us. I would assume that the primary audience would be either students who are enrolled in Penn already and what a little leg up without sacrificing time away from campus during the summer or students who are trying to boost their transfer applications (into Penn) by getting a few Penn credits.

Naturally, they'll take anyone's thousands of dollars. But I imagine the aforementioned students would find the most utility in this program. I just doubt there is a person sitting there trying to decide between completing their online math course through Fort Hays State (for the price) and the University of Pennsylvania (for the prestige) while intending to use those credits for Excelsior.

Harvard Summer School (which I believe is open to anyone) costs about $3,500 per 4 credit course. Some of the courses are on-campus and some online.
