Does anyone know of any law schools (online or in person) that accept masters credits towards their JD degree? I found Cuny Law school accepts 9 non law school credits but i am having a hard time finding others similar. I know the credits vary by major and all also but I would love to use some of my masters credits towards a Juris Doctorate degree.

First of all, please read this. Though I'm sure this might spark an interesting debate.

Two, American University seems to say they will potentially accept 12.

It's a three year full time program and most law schools I'm looking at have programs that range from 83 - 86 credits (more if you have a joint degree program). If you already happen to have some graduate credits that may transfer then I say go for it. Why duplicate coursework?

But if your objective is to take graduate courses to knock out part of law school I think that's a pretty big gamble. For starters there is no guarantee that the courses will actually transfer. And second, if they do, you may be giving away elective space in your schedule that you would otherwise have enjoyed using to study something that interested you in the course of your legal education.

At my law school they accepted up to six credits from another graduate program, but that was only within the same university and only after the student had already begun their course of study at the law school. I took a 3 credit hour PhD-level seminar in philosophy. Having taken a course in undergrad and read a bit of Hobbes and Plato and the like, I figured I could navigate it--but I was completely lost the whole semester, the prof gave me a gift "B".
